Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a clutch mechanism for a bicycle functioned as a safe auxiliary brake at a downward slope, reducing abrasion of a brake shoe and obtaining auxiliary power at an upslope.
SOLUTION: At a sharp downward slope and a long downward slope, a compressor is rotated by rotation of a wheel to compress air and it can be accumulated in a pressure bomb. A valve is switched by operation of a switch mounted to a handle and the compressor is converted to a driving device to rotate the wheel. It becomes a safe auxiliary brake at a downward slope and is changed to auxiliary power at an upslope. The clutch mechanism in which the device becomes free in order to reduce resistance as much as possible at traveling on a flat place is provided.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI

Description

When riding on a bicycle, on a steep downhill or a long downhill, the compressor can be turned by turning the wheels to compress the air and store it in the pressure cylinder. The valve is switched by the operation of a switch attached to the handle grip, the compression device is changed to a drive device, and the air of the pressure cylinder is sent to the drive device, which serves as auxiliary power to assist the rotation of the wheels. On a downhill, the resistance of the compression device acts as a safe auxiliary brake and the wear of the brake shoe is reduced, while on an uphill, the valve is switched to auxiliary power. When traveling on flat ground, a clutch mechanism is provided to make the compression device free in order to reduce the resistance as much as possible.
