As described above, in the conventional solid polymer electrolyte fuel cell, the configuration as shown in FIG. 16 has been generally adopted, but in this configuration, the pipe joints are arranged on both sides, so Including the required space for the piping to be performed, it is necessary to provide a large amount of space on the side surface of the fuel cell. For this reason, if this fuel cell is incorporated in a casing together with a reformer, etc., to constitute a fuel cell power generator, there is a disadvantage that a large casing and a large space are required, and a solid polymer having a more compact constitution is required. There is a need for the development of an electrolyte fuel cell.

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
As in the case of the solid polymer electrolyte fuel cell disclosed in
However, the solid polymer electrolyte fuel cell configured as described above still has the following problems.
[0010]
That is, in the fuel cell having the supply port and the discharge port of the fuel, the air, and the cooling water at one end face in the stacking direction of the cells, the fuel supplied from the fuel inlet is, as illustrated in FIG. The fuel flows from the inlet manifold located at the upper part in the drawing in parallel through the fuel circulation grooves provided in the separators of the plurality of cells, and reaches the outlet manifold located at the lower part in the figure, and then the fuel outlet Although the fuel in the manifold on the inlet side and the fuel in the manifold on the outlet side flow in opposite directions, the static pressure distribution in the manifold becomes uneven, and the pressure loss in each cell is shown in FIG. As described above. Therefore, in the case where the separator is provided with a flow groove having the same flow path cross-sectional area, there is a problem that the flow rate of the fuel varies from cell to cell, and the battery characteristics deteriorate. As a solution to this difficulty,
[0011]
Further, in a fuel cell configured by stacking a plurality of single cells, it is necessary to incorporate a pressure tightening mechanism such as a coil spring in order to reduce the internal contact resistance. If a configuration is adopted in which all the pipe joints are attached to one end face in the stacking direction of the cells, there is a problem that it is difficult to incorporate these pressure tightening mechanisms.
The present invention has been made in consideration of the current state of the art and problems as described above, and an object of the present invention is to connect a supply pipe and a discharge pipe for reactant gas and cooling water supplied to a fuel cell unit. It is an object of the present invention to provide a solid polymer electrolyte fuel cell capable of constructing a fuel cell power generation device that requires a small space, is compact, and has excellent cell characteristics.
[0012]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, in the present invention,
In a cuboid solid polymer electrolyte fuel cell including a fuel cell unit configured by stacking a plurality of single cells each including a solid polymer electrolyte body, an electrode, and a separator, (1) fuel and air are added to the fuel cell unit. The piping for supplying and discharging the cooling water is provided only on one of the battery side surfaces orthogonal to the stacking direction of the single cells.

The fuel cell unit further includes a separator having a groove through which fuel, air, or cooling water flows from a manifold adjacent to the side surface of the fuel cell. A communication portion having a flow path for allowing fuel, air, or cooling water to flow from the adjacent manifold to the manifold adjacent to the second battery side surface is provided via a current collector or a current collector and a partition plate. Further, the above-mentioned current collector plate or the current collector plate and the partition plate are moved from the manifold adjacent to the second battery side surface of the communication portion to the manifold adjacent to the second battery side surface of the fuel cell portion. Re and comprise a flowing hole for flow through the fuel and air and the cooling water.
[0013]
(3) Further, in the above (2), a separator having a groove through which fuel, air or cooling water flows from the manifold adjacent to the first battery side to the manifold adjacent to the second battery side. Are stacked and configured.
(4) In the solid polymer electrolyte fuel cell according to the above (3), the water permeable membrane is sandwiched between the separator having the fuel or air flow path and the separator having the cooling water flow path in the communicating portion. Humidifier plate.
