Abstract
Description
【0001】

d=λ/(sinθi−sinθR)…(1)
この反射体32としては、Al(アルミニウム)またはAg(銀)が好適である。
【0124】

The present invention has been made in view of such circumstances, and a first object of the present invention is to provide a light guide plate that can be thin and has a beautiful appearance and that can control emitted light freely. It is in.
[0012]
A second object of the present invention is to provide an illuminating device that can illuminate brightly by using such a light guide plate, and further to display an object to be displayed brightly by using the illuminating device. It is to provide a display device which can be used.
[0013]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, the present invention takes the following measures.
[0014]
That is, in order to achieve the first object, a first aspect of the present invention provides a light guide plate that guides incident light and emits guided light from a light exit surface. A plurality of diffraction grating regions having the same grating vector direction as each other, and having the same grating vector direction as the average light guiding direction, which is the average direction in which light is guided, are formed on the light exit surface or the light It is arranged on the surface facing the emission surface.
[0015]
Therefore, in the light guide plate according to the first aspect of the present invention, by taking the above measures, the incident light is guided while being totally reflected in the light guide plate. Then, the guided light can be appropriately emitted to the outside of the light guide plate by the diffraction grating region. Further, the diffraction grating constituting the diffraction grating region may be a normal relief type diffraction grating, and the size of the unevenness can be set to about 0.1 to 1.0 μm. For this reason, it can be regarded as a substantially flat surface without extra projections, and it is possible to reduce the thickness.
[0016]
The light amount and the emission distribution of the emitted light can be freely controlled by adjusting the arrangement pitch and size of the diffraction grating region, or the grating pitch and the size of the diffraction grating.
[0017]
According to a second aspect of the present invention, in order to achieve the first object, a light guide plate for guiding incident light and emitting the guided light from a light exit surface includes a diffraction grating having a ridge line as a curve. A plurality of diffractions in which the average lattice vector direction obtained by averaging the lattice vector directions is the same as each other, and the average light guiding direction, which is the average direction in which light is guided, is the same as the average lattice vector. The grating region is arranged on the light exit surface or a surface facing the light exit surface.
[0018]
In the light guide plate according to the second aspect of the present invention, it is possible to obtain diffracted light that spreads in a direction perpendicular to the average light guide direction according to the angle of the ridge line that forms the curve. Therefore, the spread of the emitted light in the direction orthogonal to the average light guide direction can be controlled by the curved shape of the ridgeline.
[0019]
According to a third aspect of the present invention, in order to achieve the first object, in the light guide plate of the first or second aspect of the present invention, each diffraction grating region has a substantially constant density along the average light guide direction. , So that the diffraction efficiency of each diffraction grating region becomes higher as it proceeds along the average light guide direction.
[0020]
Therefore, in the light guide plate according to the third aspect of the present invention, by taking the above measures, the intensity of the emitted light can be made substantially uniform over the entire light guide plate.
[0021]
According to a fourth aspect of the present invention, in order to achieve the first object, in the light guide plate of the first or second aspect of the present invention, the diffraction grating includes a plurality of concave and convex shapes along the grating vector direction. The surface relief type diffraction grating is formed by repeating the arrangement.
[0022]
According to the invention of claim 4, in particular, by making the diffraction gratings of the respective diffraction grating regions the same, for example, only one diffraction grating region is precisely produced, and these are arranged and duplicated to form a light guide plate on the light guide plate. It becomes possible to form all the diffraction gratings, and it is possible to make them extremely easily.
[0023]
According to a fifth aspect of the present invention, in order to achieve the first object, in the light guide plate of the fourth aspect of the present invention, the plurality of concave shapes and convex shapes are made larger as they progress along the lattice vector direction. I have.
[0024]
Therefore, in the light guide plate according to the fifth aspect of the present invention, by taking the above measures, the ratio of light emitted from the light guide plate on the light incident end side where the light intensity is strong is small, and the light is emitted as the distance from the light incident end increases. The ratio can be easily increased, and light with uniform intensity can be emitted over the entire surface of the light guide plate.
[0025]
According to a sixth aspect of the present invention, in order to achieve the first object, in the light guide plate according to the fourth aspect of the present invention, the sizes of the concave shape and the convex shape constituting the diffraction grating are set for all diffraction grating regions. The arrangement density is the same, and the arrangement density at which the respective diffraction grating regions are arranged is increased as the light travels along the average light guide direction.
[0026]
The light guide plate of the invention of claim 6 can also achieve the same operation and effect as the invention of claim 5. In addition, it is easy to manufacture such that one diffraction grating region can be duplicated and manufactured, and a uniform state can be easily implemented.
[0027]
According to a seventh aspect of the present invention, in order to achieve the first object, in the light guide plate according to any one of the fourth to sixth aspects, the surface relief type diffraction grating is a blazed diffraction grating.
[0028]
Therefore, in the light guide plate according to the seventh aspect of the present invention, as described above, by using the blazed diffraction grating as the surface relief type diffraction grating, it is possible to extremely increase the light use efficiency with respect to desired emission light. It becomes.
[0029]
According to an eighth aspect of the present invention, in order to achieve the first object, in the light guide plate according to any one of the fourth to sixth aspects, the surface relief type diffraction grating has a cross-sectional shape of a sine wave. It is a diffraction grating or a diffraction grating composed of rectangular waves.
[0030]
Therefore, in the light guide plate according to the eighth aspect of the present invention, by taking the above means, it is possible to totally reflect a part of the guided light as it is and emit another part of the light. . As a result, even if the light has been reflected from the diffraction grating area, the total reflection light component can be maintained, so that a large number of diffraction grating areas can be arranged at a high density, and the light emission of the light guide plate can be visually observed. When the surface is observed, it can be made to look more uniform.
[0031]
According to a ninth aspect of the present invention, in the light guide plate according to any one of the fourth to eighth aspects of the present invention, in each of the diffraction grating regions, a grating pitch of a surface relief type diffraction grating is provided. Is constant.
[0032]
Therefore, in the light guide plate according to the ninth aspect of the present invention, it is possible to form all the diffraction gratings on the light guide plate by precisely fabricating only one diffraction grating region and arranging and duplicating this region. It can be easily created.
[0033]
According to a tenth aspect of the present invention, in the light guide plate according to any one of the fourth to eighth aspects, in each of the diffraction grating regions, a grating pitch of a surface relief type diffraction grating is provided. Is continuously changed.
[0034]
Therefore, in the light guide plate according to the tenth aspect of the present invention, by taking the above means, the diffracted light can be spread in the lattice vector direction according to the amount of change in the lattice pitch. Thus, it is possible to control the spread of the light emitted from the light guide plate in the lattice vector direction.
[0035]
According to an eleventh aspect of the present invention, in order to achieve the first object, in the light guide plate according to any one of the first to tenth aspects, light emitted from the light exit surface is diffused to the light exit surface. To form an uneven shape.
[0036]
Therefore, in the light guide plate of the eleventh aspect of the present invention, by taking the above measures, the light emitted from the diffraction grating region can be further diffused, and a uniform emitted light distribution can be easily obtained.
[0037]
According to a twelfth aspect of the present invention, in order to achieve the first object, in the light guide plate according to any one of the first to eleventh aspects, the planar shape of each diffraction grating region is rectangular.
[0038]
Thus, by making the shape of the diffraction grating region rectangular, diffracted light can be spread only in a direction orthogonal to each side of the rectangle, and the way of spreading is controlled by the size of the rectangle in that direction. Can be. Therefore, it is possible to freely design how the emitted light spreads in two directions.
[0039]
According to a thirteenth aspect of the present invention, in order to achieve the first object, in the light guide plate according to any one of the first to eleventh aspects, the planar shape of each diffraction grating region is circular or elliptical.
[0040]
As described above, by making the shape of the diffraction grating region circular or elliptical, it is possible to realize emission light having spread in all directions. At this time, the spread of the emitted light can be controlled by the size of the diffraction grating region. In the case of an elliptical shape, how the diffracted light spreads in a direction orthogonal to the long axis and the short axis can be controlled by the size in the direction. Therefore, it is possible to freely design how the emitted light spreads in two directions.
[0041]
According to a fourteenth aspect of the present invention, in order to achieve the first object, in the light guide plate according to any one of the first to thirteenth aspects, the length of each diffraction grating region along the grating vector direction is set as follows: The pitch is set to three times or more and 300 μm or less of the grating pitch of the diffraction grating.
[0042]
Therefore, in the light guide plate according to the fourteenth aspect of the present invention, by taking the above-described measures, the length of the diffraction grating region along the average light guide direction, that is, the length of the short side is determined as the grating pitch of the diffraction grating. When the thickness is 3 times or more and 300 μm or less, diffraction can be caused in the diffraction grating formed inside the diffraction grating region, and the spread of light emitted from the light guide plate in the short side direction is controlled according to the length of the short side. be able to.
[0043]
In particular, when a diffraction grating acts on white light, the diffraction light is dispersed. Therefore, when using a white light, if the short side of the diffraction grating region is set to 30 μm or less, the diffracted light in the short side direction is reduced. Is spread, and the influence of the spectrum can be suppressed by overlapping the diffracted lights of the individual wavelengths. This effect can be easily and surely realized by the configuration of
[0044]
According to a fifteenth aspect of the present invention, in order to achieve a second object, the light guide plate according to any one of the first to fourteenth aspects, and the light guided by the light guide plate is transmitted to the light guide plate. A point light source or a linear light source that is long in a parallel direction perpendicular to the average light guide direction.
[0045]
Therefore, in the lighting device according to the fifteenth aspect, by taking the above-described means, it is possible to realize a lighting device having the above-described effect of the light guide plate. That is, the light intensity on the side near and far from the light source can be easily made constant, and the uniformity in the direction orthogonal to the average light guide direction can be improved even if a point light source or a light source having unevenness is used. It is possible.
[0046]
According to a sixteenth aspect of the present invention, in order to achieve the second object, the lighting device of the fifteenth aspect has a plurality of light sources.
[0047]
In the lighting device of the sixteenth aspect, the same operation and effect as those of the lighting device of the fifteenth aspect can be obtained.
[0048]
According to a seventeenth aspect of the present invention, in order to achieve the second object, the lighting device according to the fifteenth or sixteenth aspect has a function of reflecting light so as to cover a surface facing the light exit surface. A reflector is arranged.
[0049]
Therefore, in the illumination device according to the seventeenth aspect, the diffracted light or the like that has not been directed to the light exit surface can be reflected back to the light guide plate and reused by the reflector, thereby further improving the light use efficiency. Can be. At this time, there is no large projection or the like on the side where the reflector is arranged, and there is no need to leave an unnecessary space between the light guide plate and the reflector, so that the entire lighting device can be made thinner.
[0050]
In order to achieve the second object, a display device according to an eighteenth aspect of the present invention provides a lighting device according to any one of the fifteenth to seventeenth aspects, and a light exit surface of a light guide plate provided in the illumination device. And a transmissive display element that displays an image by transmitting light emitted from the light exit surface.
[0051]
Therefore, in the display device according to the eighteenth aspect of the present invention, by taking the above measures, the display device having the above-described effect of the light guide plate, that is, bright (high light use efficiency) and uniform brightness can be obtained. It is possible to realize a display device that displays the height of the display. Furthermore, since the spread of the emitted light can be controlled without the help of other optical films, it is easy to observe a brighter display image within the viewing area by limiting the viewing area while having a simple configuration that is thin and inexpensive to manufacture. Becomes possible.

At this time, the wavelength of light is λ, and the size of the rectangular aperture is D in two directions (x direction and y direction) orthogonal to each other. x , D y The distance from the opening to the surface for observing the light intensity is r. Since A is a value independent of the size of the rectangular opening, it can be treated as a constant here. Here, the following relationship is established.

The critical angle is determined from the refractive index of the material constituting the
[0077]
Of the light under such total reflection conditions, the light reflected by the diffraction grating region 30 (# 1 to #n) generates diffracted light by the diffraction grating. The main diffracted light at this time is the first-order diffracted light. In the same direction as the grating vector direction v, the grating pitch d forming the diffraction grating regions 30 (# 1 to #n) and the exit angle (diffraction angle) θ of the first-order diffracted light R Is expressed by the following equation (1).
d = λ / (sin θ i −sin θ R )… (1)
Where λ is the wavelength of light, θ i Is the specular reflection angle (when the diffraction grating operates during reflection). In the present embodiment, since the grating vector direction v and the average light guide direction F are substantially the same, by appropriately setting the grating pitch d, light traveling in the average light guide direction F while undergoing total reflection is diffracted by the diffraction grating. θ R And exits from the
[0078]
Further, the light component diffracted by the diffraction grating is further diffracted by the arrangement pattern of the diffraction grating regions 30 (# 1 to #n). Each of them is based on a light diffraction phenomenon, and it can be described that light whose direction is bent by the diffraction grating is spread by the diffraction grating. The spread width of the diffracted light can be controlled by the length of the diffraction grating region 30 (# 1 to #n) in each direction. The spread width of the diffracted light can be easily designed by applying the analysis result of the light diffraction phenomenon at the well-known minute aperture.
[0079]
When the white light is guided, the degree of splitting of the diffracted light can be obtained by the above equation (1), but the length w of the diffraction grating region 30 (# 1 to #n) in the lattice vector direction v is sufficient. In this case, the spread width of the diffracted light can be increased, and the influence of the spectrum can be suppressed.
[0080]
FIG. 3 shows an example of a cross-sectional shape of a surface relief type diffraction grating. In a rectangular diffraction grating and a sinusoidal diffraction grating as shown in FIG. 3B and FIG. 3C, a plurality of diffraction orders including regular reflection light usually occur. However, the specularly reflected light in the
[0081]
On the other hand, since the first-order diffracted light is usually the strongest other than the regular reflection light, a sufficient amount of light can be distributed to the emitted light. Further, even when diffracted light of the second or higher order or the minus order is generated, the light satisfies the condition of total reflection traveling in the direction opposite to the average light guiding direction F, and the light component that causes noise and loss is small.
[0082]
On the other hand, in a blazed diffraction grating having a sawtooth cross section as shown in FIG. 3A, the diffraction efficiency can be made extremely high, and the regular reflection light component can be made almost zero. Therefore, all the light incident on each diffraction grating region 30 (# 1 to #n) can be converted into emission light, and the light use efficiency is extremely high. Therefore, the optical design of the entire

In addition, since the grating vector direction v of the diffraction grating or the average value of the grating vector direction v substantially coincides with the average light guiding direction F, the light traveling in the average light guiding direction F under the total reflection condition can be surely emitted. The light can be diffracted toward the

On the other hand, the diffracted light from the diffraction gratings formed in the diffraction grating regions 30 (# 1 to #n) is directed to each direction of the diffraction grating regions 30 (# 1 to #n), similarly to the light diffraction phenomenon of the diffraction grating. , The distribution can be controlled in any direction, and by using the

[0092]
Since the diffraction efficiency of a surface relief type diffraction grating depends on the amount of phase modulation given to light by the diffraction grating, its optical length is more important than the size of physical unevenness. That is, the diffraction efficiency also needs to consider the refractive index of the material constituting the diffraction grating.
[0093]
On the other hand, if the material forming the diffraction grating is uniform, the diffraction efficiency can be controlled only by controlling the size of the physical unevenness, so that the
[0094]
Alternatively, as shown in FIG. 12, the size of the unevenness of the diffraction grating is all the same over the
[0095]
In the above, by setting the arrangement of the diffraction grating regions 30 (# 1 to #n) to be equal to or lower than the resolution of the human eye under the set observation conditions, it is possible to make the emitted light distribution more uniform.
[0096]
In addition, by using a blazed diffraction grating whose cross-sectional shape is shown in FIG. 3A as the diffraction grating, it is possible to extremely increase the light use efficiency with respect to desired emission light. Alternatively, by using a rectangular diffraction grating and a sinusoidal diffraction grating whose cross-sectional shapes are shown in FIGS. 3B and 3C as the diffraction grating, a part of the guided light can be entirely changed. It can reflect and emit another part. As a result, even after the light reflected from the diffraction grating regions 30 (# 1 to #n), the total reflection light component can be maintained, so that many diffraction grating regions 30 (# 1 to #n) are arranged at high density. Therefore, when the

FIG. 16 is a cross-sectional view showing a light guide state in the light guide plate according to the present embodiment.
[0102]
That is, in the light guide plate according to the present embodiment, the grating pitch d of the diffraction grating in the diffraction grating region 30 (# 1 to #n) is continuously widened in the grating vector direction v. 15A shows a blazed diffraction grating, FIG. 15B shows a rectangular diffraction grating, and FIG. 15C shows a sinusoidal diffraction grating.
[0103]
As shown in FIG. 15, the light guide plate according to the present embodiment is continuous as the grating pitch d of the diffraction grating in the above-described diffraction grating region 30 (# 1 to #n) advances in the grating vector direction v. As shown in FIG. 16, the diffraction angle has a wide width, that is, the diffracted light can be spread, as shown in FIG. 16, so that in addition to the function and effect obtained in the first embodiment, Thus, it is possible to realize emission light whose spreading manner is controlled.

FIG. 17 is a cross-sectional view illustrating an example of a cross-sectional shape of the diffraction grating region of the light guide plate according to the third embodiment, and a corresponding plan view.
That is, in the light guide plate according to the present embodiment, diffraction grating regions 30 (# 1 to #n) having a cross-sectional shape as shown in FIGS. 17 (a), 17 (b), and 17 (c) are formed. The ridge line R of the diffraction grating is curved as shown in the plan view of FIG.

That is, by making the ridge line R of the diffraction grating a curved line, it is possible to obtain diffracted light that spreads in the direction V orthogonal to the average light guide direction F according to the angle of the line segment forming the ridge line R. Therefore, it is possible to control how the emitted light in the direction V orthogonal to the average light guide direction F spreads, depending on the shape of the ridge line R.
[0108]
Further, as shown in FIG. 18, by continuously changing the grating pitch d in the diffraction grating region 30 (# 1 to #n), diffraction in the grating vector direction v is performed according to the amount of change in the grating pitch d. Light can be spread. Thereby, it is possible to control the spread of the emitted light from the

A fourth embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to FIGS.
