BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a charge control device and a charge control method, and more particularly, to a charge control device and a charge control method for controlling charging of a secondary battery by electric power supplied from an external power source.
[0002]
[Prior art]
As shown in FIG. 10, as an example, a conventional charge control device that controls charging to a rechargeable secondary battery such as a lithium ion battery, a nickel / cadmium battery, or a nickel metal hydride battery is provided from an external power source such as an AC adapter. A transistor Tr for adjusting the charging current and a resistor R for detecting the current level of the charging current are provided in series on the supply path of the driving power reaching the secondary battery Bt, and the control terminal of the transistor Tr , Both terminals of the resistor R and the positive terminal of the secondary battery Bt are provided, and based on the current (charging current) I flowing through the resistor R and the voltage V of the secondary battery Bt. The charging control unit controls charging (for example, see Patent Document 1).
[0003]
In this technique, when the secondary battery Bt is a lithium secondary battery such as a lithium ion battery or a lithium polymer battery, charging is performed by constant current / constant voltage charging. Here, the flow of constant current / constant voltage charging when the secondary battery is a lithium ion battery will be briefly described with reference to FIGS. 10 and 11.
[0004]
Lithium ion batteries have a rising voltage limit of 4.2 V per cell. Therefore, when charging the battery, first, constant current charging is performed until the voltage V of the battery Bt reaches 4.2V, and after reaching 4.2V, the battery shifts to constant voltage charging. When constant voltage charging is performed, the battery gradually shifts to full charging, and the charging current I gradually decreases. Therefore, the charging ends when the level of the charging current I reaches the lower limit level. In addition, in a lithium ion battery, when the battery voltage is less than about 3V, performing high-speed charging by constant current charging with a high level of current places a heavy burden on the battery, so a predetermined voltage is required until the battery voltage reaches about 3V. Slow charge with low current.
[0005]
That is, in the constant current charging, when the resistance value of the resistor R is 1Ω and the charging current is 100 mA, the charging control unit determines that the voltage ΔV between both terminals of the resistor R is 0.1 V (= 1 × 100x10 -3 ) To control the transistor Tr. In the constant voltage charging, the charging control unit controls the transistor Tr so as to gradually decrease the voltage ΔV so that the voltage V of the battery Bt becomes 4.2 V, that is, gradually decrease the charging current I. To do.
[0006]
Thus, conventionally, when performing constant current charging, a resistor (resistor R) for monitoring the charging current has been required.
[0007]
By the way, when such a conventional charge control device is configured to supply power from a secondary battery or an external power source to a load device, as shown in FIG. The power supply path to the load device is formed by branching the connection path between the resistor R and the secondary battery Bt, and between the branch point between the resistor R and the secondary battery Bt and the secondary battery Bt. It is conceivable that a switch SW2 composed of a transistor or the like is interposed between the switches SW2. In addition, in order to avoid complication, in FIG. 12, illustration of the connection state between a charge control part and each component is abbreviate | omitted.
[0008]
According to this configuration, both the transistor Tr and the switch SW2 are turned on when the secondary battery Bt is charged, and the transistor Tr is turned off and the switch SW2 is turned on when power is supplied from the secondary battery Bt to the load device. When power is supplied from the power supply to the load device, the transistor Tr is turned on and the switch SW2 is turned off.
[0009]
With this configuration and operation, unnecessary current flows into the secondary battery Bt when power is supplied from the external power source to the load device, and unnecessary power supply to the external power source when power is supplied from the secondary battery Bt to the load device. Inflow of a large current can be prevented.
[0010]

[0011]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, this technique has a problem that power is lost due to the resistor because power is supplied via the resistor when power is supplied from the external power source to the load device.
[0012]
Since the power supplied from the external power source to the load device is relatively large according to the power consumption of the load device, a resistor having a relatively large resistance value is applied. For this reason, the power loss due to the resistor becomes relatively large.
[0013]
As a technique for solving this problem, as shown in FIG. 13, the connection path between the external power supply and the transistor Tr is branched from the configuration shown in FIG. A configuration in which the switch SW1 is interposed and connected to the power supply path is conceivable. In addition, in order to avoid complications, illustration of the connection state between a charge control part and each component is abbreviate | omitted also in FIG.
[0014]
According to this configuration, when charging the secondary battery Bt, as shown in FIG. 13A, the switch SW1 is turned off and the transistor Tr and the switch SW2 are turned on to supply power from the secondary battery Bt to the load device. Sometimes, as shown in FIG. 13B, the switch SW1 and the transistor Tr are turned off and the switch SW2 is turned on. Further, when power is supplied from the external power source to the load device, as shown in FIG. The switch SW1 is turned on and the transistor Tr and the switch SW2 are turned off.
[0015]
With this configuration and operation, it is possible to prevent power loss due to the resistor R when power is supplied from the external power source to the load device.
[0016]
However, in this technique, it is necessary to form a power supply path to the load device in a state where the connection path between the external power supply and the transistor Tr is branched and the switch SW1 is interposed, and this increases the cost. There was a problem that.
[0017]
The present invention has been made to solve the above problems, and an object of the present invention is to provide a charge control device and a charge control method capable of suppressing power loss without incurring an increase in cost.
[0018]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, a charge control device according to
[0019]
According to the charge control device of the first aspect, the first transistor for adjusting the charging current for the secondary battery to be charged is connected in series to the secondary battery, and the current that flows when the battery is turned on is the first current. A second transistor having a predetermined ratio smaller than that of the second transistor is connected in parallel to the secondary battery, and a resistor for detecting the level of the current flowing through the second transistor is provided in the second transistor. Connected in series. The secondary battery may include a lithium ion battery, a lithium polymer battery, a nickel cadmium battery, a nickel hydride battery, and the like. The first transistor and the second transistor can include a field effect transistor or a bipolar transistor.
[0020]
Here, in the present invention, the charging current level for the secondary battery is detected by the control means based on the current level detected by the resistor when charging the secondary battery, and 2 based on the charging current level. Control of constant current charging for the secondary battery is performed.
[0021]
In other words, according to the present invention, the current flowing through the second transistor in which the current flowing at the time of turning on is smaller than the first transistor at a predetermined rate is set as the charge current level required when performing constant current charging. This is indirectly detected based on the level of the current, so that a resistor for monitoring the charge current level is compared with the case where it is directly detected from the current flowing in the first transistor through which a relatively large current flows. (In the present invention, the resistor connected in series with the second transistor) can have a small resistance value, and as a result, power loss due to the resistor can be suppressed.
[0022]
Further, according to this configuration, since it is not necessary to newly provide a power supply path to the load device, the cost is not increased unlike the configuration shown in FIG.
[0023]
FIG. 1 shows a preferred configuration example when the invention according to
[0024]
In this configuration, the first transistor Tr1 for adjusting the charging current for the secondary battery Bt to be charged is connected in series to the secondary battery Bt, and the current that flows when the battery is turned on is determined in advance by the first transistor Tr1. The second transistor Tr2, which is made smaller at the ratio, is connected in parallel to the secondary battery Bt, and a resistor R1 for detecting the level of the current flowing through the second transistor Tr2 is provided as the second transistor Tr2. Connected in series.
[0025]
Further, the charging
[0026]
According to this configuration, when the current flowing when the second transistor Tr2 is on is 1 / A of the first transistor Tr1, as shown in FIG. 2, the current flowing through the second transistor Tr2 during charge control is Therefore, the power loss due to the resistor R1 is also 1 / A compared to the case where the resistor is connected in series with the first transistor Tr1.
[0027]
Note that in order to apply a transistor in which the current that flows when the transistor is turned on is smaller than the first transistor at a predetermined rate, the transistor ratio W / L (W is the gate width, A transistor in which L is a gate length) may be applied.
[0028]
Thus, according to the charging control device of the first aspect, the first transistor for adjusting the charging current for the secondary battery to be charged is connected in series to the secondary battery, and at the time of turning on. A secondary transistor in which a second transistor whose current flowing is smaller than the first transistor at a predetermined rate and a resistor for detecting the level of the current flowing through the second transistor are connected in series. The battery is connected in parallel, the charging current level for the secondary battery is detected based on the level detected by the resistor when charging the secondary battery, and the constant current charging for the secondary battery is performed based on the charging current level. Therefore, power loss can be suppressed without increasing the cost.
[0029]
In addition, it is preferable that the control means of the present invention performs control so that the second transistor is turned off when the secondary battery is not charged, as in the second aspect of the invention. Thereby, the power loss by the resistor of the present invention at the time of non-charging can be reduced.
[0030]
According to a third aspect of the present invention, as in the third aspect of the present invention, the battery pack further includes switching means for periodically switching between the inflow of the current to the second transistor and the stop of the inflow when the secondary battery is charged. Preferably, the control means detects the charging current level when the switching means is switched so that a current flows into the second transistor.
[0031]
In the present invention, when the secondary battery is charged, the inflow of the current to the second transistor and the inflow stop are periodically switched by the switching means, and the current is flowed into the second transistor by the switching means by the control means. The charging current level is detected when the switching is performed. Thereby, the power loss by the resistor of this invention at the time of charge can be reduced.
[0032]
Furthermore, the present invention provides a power supply path to a load device formed by branching from a connection path between the first transistor and the secondary battery, as in the invention according to
[0033]
According to the present invention, the connection path between the first transistor and the secondary battery is branched to form a power supply path to the load device, and the branch point between the connection path and the power supply path is 2 A third transistor is connected in series with the secondary battery. Note that the third transistor can include a field effect transistor or a bipolar transistor.
[0034]
In the present invention, the control means turns on the first transistor and the third transistor when charging the secondary battery, and turns on the first transistor when supplying power from the external power source to the load device. The third transistor is turned off. When power is supplied from the secondary battery to the load device, the first transistor is turned off and the third transistor is turned on.
[0035]
FIG. 3 shows a preferred configuration example when the invention according to
[0036]
In the example shown in the figure, the connection path between the first transistor Tr1 and the secondary battery Bt is branched to form a power supply path to the load device, and the branch between the connection path and the power supply path. A third transistor Tr3 is connected in series between the point and the secondary battery Bt.
[0037]
Further, the
[0038]
That is, in the present invention, when the power is supplied from the external power supply to the load device, the third transistor is turned off, so that unnecessary current can be prevented from flowing from the external power supply to the secondary battery. When the power is supplied from the battery to the load device, the first transistor is turned off to prevent unnecessary current from flowing from the secondary battery to the external power supply.
[0039]
On the other hand, in order to achieve the above object, a charge control method according to claim 5 is a charge control method for controlling charging of a secondary battery by electric power supplied from an external power source, and charging the secondary battery. A second transistor in which a first transistor for adjusting a current is connected in series to the secondary battery, and a current that flows when the transistor is turned on is smaller than the first transistor at a predetermined rate; The level detected by the resistor when charging the secondary battery by connecting in parallel the resistor connected in series to the resistor for detecting the level of the current flowing through the second transistor The charging current level for the secondary battery is detected based on the charging current, and the constant current charging for the secondary battery is controlled based on the charging current level.
[0040]
Therefore, according to the invention described in claim 5, since it operates in the same manner as the invention described in
[0041]

【The invention's effect】
As described above in detail, according to the charging control device and the charging control method of the present invention, the first transistor for adjusting the charging current for the secondary battery to be charged is connected in series to the secondary battery. In addition, a second transistor in which the current flowing at the time of ON is made smaller than the first transistor at a predetermined rate and a resistor for detecting the level of the current flowing in the second transistor are connected in series. Are connected in parallel to the secondary battery, the charging current level for the secondary battery is detected based on the level detected by the resistor when charging the secondary battery, and the secondary battery is detected based on the charging current level. Since the control of the constant current charging for the battery is performed, the effect that the power loss can be suppressed without increasing the cost can be obtained.
