Abstract
Description
【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a radiation-curable liquid resin composition for an optical fiber coating material.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Glass fibers used for optical fibers are brittle and easily damaged, and are coated with an ultraviolet (UV) curable resin for protection, reinforcement, and the like.
[0003]
The UV curable resin used here is required to have a small change in mechanical properties such as Young's modulus over time from the viewpoint of long-term reliability of the optical fiber. Therefore, it is required to reduce the content of the uncured material in the UV cured resin film after the UV irradiation.
[0004]
However, in order to improve the productivity of the optical fiber, it is necessary to increase the drawing speed from the molten glass fiber base material, and accordingly, the amount of UV irradiation in the coating process with the UV curing resin decreases, and There was a problem that the content of the uncured material was increased.
[0005]
Therefore, at the same time as the development of a resin that satisfies the required physical properties for each application, development for increasing the curing speed and degree of curing is also being actively studied. Further, from the viewpoint of long-term reliability, a resin design having physical properties, heat resistance in appearance, and weather resistance, and studies on additives, etc. have also been made, but none of them have been found to be completely satisfactory.
[0006]
In addition, among the resins for optical fiber coating, the UV-curable resin used as the primary coating material further requires an interface adhesiveness with the glass fiber so that structural irregularities and microbending do not occur at the interface between the glass fiber and the coating material. You. As a countermeasure for this, conventionally, there has been an attempt to add a silane coupling agent such as an alkoxysilane containing one amino group or mercapto group in the molecule. However, the adhesion to these glasses is not sufficient, and if they are stored for a long period of time under moist heat or heating, there is a problem that the adhesion of the cured product to glass decreases. Furthermore, the adhesion to the glass immediately after curing is low, but after several days, the adhesion increases and becomes stable. That is, there is a problem that the adhesion changes from the initial stage to a few days later.
[0007]
Conventionally, as a technique for improving long-term adhesion to glass, a resin composition using a urethane acrylate having a silane compound at a terminal has been disclosed (see Patent Document 1). This composition is a liquid curable resin composition having heat resistance, weather resistance, and the like, and excellent in long-term adhesion to glass, but the problem of time-dependent change in glass adhesion after curing has not been solved.
[0008]
On the other hand, there is an example in which a high substrate adhesion was obtained by adding a phosphoric acid ester having an acryloyl group (see Patent Document 2). However, this technique is in the field of adhesives for laminated optical discs, and when applied to an optical fiber coating material, in addition to completely different properties such as the viscosity of the composition and the Young's modulus of the cured product, The glass adhesiveness was too high, and it had disadvantages such as difficulty in removing the coating layer at the time of cutting / connecting the coated optical fiber, and was unsuitable.

[0057]
In addition, the molecular weight of these (meth) acrylate compounds is usually in the range of about 200 to 3000. Specific examples of particularly preferred (meth) acrylate compounds among the above are monofunctional (meth) acrylate compounds, for example, Alonix M111, M113, M114, and M117 as commercial products (all manufactured by Toa Gosei Chemical Industry Co., Ltd.) And KAYARAD TC110S, R629, R644 (all manufactured by Nippon Kayaku Co., Ltd.). By using these monofunctional (meth) acrylate compounds, the flexibility of the cured product is improved, and the flexibility at a low temperature is also improved, which is a particularly preferable characteristic as an optical fiber primary coating material. The curing rate of the resulting composition can be improved by using two or more of these (meth) acrylate compounds in combination.
[0058]
These components (C) are preferably contained in the composition of the present invention in an amount of 5 to 60% by weight, particularly preferably 10 to 40% by weight. If the content of the component (C) is too small, the Young's modulus at a low temperature after curing of the obtained composition tends to increase, and when coated on an optical fiber, the transmission loss tends to increase. Properties tend to decrease. Further, when the radiation-curable liquid resin composition of the present invention is used as a primary coating material for an optical fiber, the content of the polyfunctional (meth) acrylate is particularly limited to 15% by weight or less, preferably 10% by weight or less in the composition. Is preferable in view of various physical properties such as Young's modulus and tensile strength after curing the radiation-curable liquid resin composition of the present invention.
[0059]
The composition of the present invention is cured by radiation. Here, the radiation refers to infrared rays, visible rays, ultraviolet rays, X-rays, electron beams, α rays, β rays, γ rays, and the like.
[0060]

[0061]
In the radiation-curable liquid resin composition of the present invention, the content of the component (D) is usually 0.1 to 10% by weight, preferably 0.1 to 5% by weight, particularly preferably 0.5 to 5% by weight. 5% by weight. If the content of the component (D) is too small, the curing reaction becomes insufficient, and even if the content is too large, no further improvement in the curing speed can be expected, and practically it is preferable to be within the above range.
[0062]
Examples of the photosensitizer include triethylamine, diethylamine, N-methyldiethanolamine, ethanolamine, 4-dimethylaminobenzoic acid, methyl 4-dimethylaminobenzoate, ethyl 4-dimethylaminobenzoate, and 4-dimethylaminobenzoic acid. There are isoamyl and the like, and commercially available products include Ubecryl P102, 103, 104 and 105 (all manufactured by UCB Co., Ltd.). These photosensitizers are preferably contained in the composition of the present invention in an amount of 0.1 to 10% by weight. If the content is too small, sufficient curing cannot be achieved, and if it is too large, no further improvement in the curing speed can be expected, and in practice, it is preferably within the above range.
[0063]

[0066]
The liquid radiation-curable liquid resin composition of the present invention can be produced by mixing the above-mentioned components by a conventional method. The viscosity at 25 ° C. of the liquid radiation-curable liquid resin composition of the present invention thus prepared is usually 0.5 to 20 Pa · s, preferably 2 to 15 Pa · s.
[0067]
The preferred Young's modulus of the cured product obtained by irradiating the radiation-curable liquid resin composition of the present invention with radiation is 0.5 to 3 MPa as measured by the method described below. When the Young's modulus is in this range, it is preferable as an optical fiber primary coating material to protect the glass fiber from external stress.
[0068]
The preferred adhesion between the cured product of the present invention and glass is 5 to 100 N / m, more preferably 40 to 100 N / m, as measured by the method described below. If the glass adhesion is less than 5 N / m, peeling is likely to occur between the glass fiber and the primary coating material, and the durability of the optical fiber decreases. On the other hand, if the glass adhesion exceeds 100 N / m, it is difficult to remove the coating layer at the time of cutting / connecting the optical fiber, which is not preferable in terms of work.

【Example】
Hereinafter, the present invention will be described specifically with reference to Examples, but the present invention is not limited to these Examples.
[0070]
Urethane acrylate synthesis example 1
In a reaction vessel equipped with a stirrer, 9.75 g of tolylene diisocyanate, 85.8 g of propylene oxide-ethylene oxide copolymerized diol having a number average molecular weight of 2,300, 2,6-di-t-butyl-p-cresol 0. 024 g was charged. These were cooled with stirring until the liquid temperature reached 10 to 15 ° C. The reaction temperature was maintained at 30 to 45 ° C. by gradually adding 0.080 g of dibutyltin dilaurate dropwise. After completion of the dropwise addition, the temperature was raised to 45 to 55 ° C., and stirring was continued. The amount of residual isocyanate in the reaction mixture was measured at 30 minute intervals, and stirring was continued until the difference between these values was within 0.05%. After it was confirmed that the residual isocyanate was constant, 4.33 g of 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate was added at a temperature of 50 to 70 ° C. After the reaction was continued at a liquid temperature of 60 to 70 ° C. for 1 hour, the residual isocyanate amount was measured again. The point at which the residual isocyanate amount became 0.05% or less was regarded as the end point of the reaction. Let the obtained urethane acrylate be A-1.

[0074]
Evaluation method
(1) Composition viscosity
The liquid composition was measured for liquid viscosity at 25 ° C. using a B8H rotator.
(2) Young's modulus
Preparation of test piece: A liquid substance was applied on a glass plate using an applicator bar having a thickness of 250 μm, and this was applied in air at 1 J / cm. 2 Irradiation was performed to form a cured film having a thickness of about 200 microns. This film was left in an atmosphere of 23 ° C. and 50% RH for 12 hours or more to adjust the condition, and then used for the following Young's modulus measurement.
Measurement of Young's modulus: The cured film was cut into a strip having a width of 6 mm, and the tensile modulus was measured by a tensile tester. The pulling speed was 1 mm / min, and the distance between the chucks was 25 mm. The Young's modulus was calculated by dividing the load of 2.5% elongation by the cross-sectional area of the test piece and 0.025.
[0075]
(3) Adhesive strength with glass
Preparation of test piece: A liquid substance was applied on a glass plate using an applicator bar for 250 μm thickness, and this was applied under a nitrogen atmosphere at 100 mJ / cm. 2 Was applied to form a cured film having a thickness of 200 microns, which was cut into a width of 1 cm to obtain a test piece. Measurement of adhesion to glass:
After forming the film, the film is allowed to stand still at a temperature of 23 ° C. and a humidity of 50%, and after 1 day and 7 days, the cured film on the quartz plate is peeled off at a speed of 50 mm / min from right above the quartz plate. The adhesion (N / m) with respect to a 1 cm width of the cured film was measured.
Table 1 shows the evaluation results of various physical properties.
[0076]
[Table 1]
[0077]
It can be seen that the cured products of Comparative Examples 1 and 2 containing no component (B) have low glass adhesion and cannot be used as an optical fiber coating material. The cured product of Comparative Example 3 containing urethane acrylate obtained using a polyol containing no oxyalkylene group corresponds to Example 4 of JP-A-10-287718, but has a glass adhesion strength. Is high, but the Young's modulus is too high and the breaking elongation is too small, so that it cannot be used as an optical fiber coating material, especially as an optical fiber primary coating material. On the other hand, the cured product of the composition of the present invention has an extremely large elongation at break and has excellent glass adhesion from the beginning, which indicates that it is excellent as an optical fiber coating material, especially as an optical fiber primary coating material.
[0078]
【The invention's effect】
The radiation-curable liquid resin composition of the present invention has excellent adhesion to glass and has stable adhesion from the beginning. Therefore, it is a particularly excellent material as an optical fiber coating material, especially as a primary coating material.
