La=d×n …(1)
La=((2m+1)/4)λ (但し、m=0、1、2、…) …(2)

La=d×n …(1)
La=((2m+1)/4)λ (但し、m=0、1、2、…) …(2)

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an electroluminescence device having a light emitting layer, a method for manufacturing the electroluminescence device, and an electronic apparatus including the electroluminescence device.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Electroluminescence (EL) devices are expected as next-generation display devices. An EL device has a light-emitting element in which a light-emitting layer containing a light-emitting substance is sandwiched between an anode and a cathode, and holes injected from the anode and electrons injected from the cathode recombine in the light-emitting layer. Then, the light emission phenomenon at the time of being lost from the excited state is used. The following patent document discloses a technique relating to an EL device that enhances a specific wavelength of emitted light using an optical resonator.
[0003]
[Patent Document 1]
JP-A-11-288786
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
The above-mentioned prior art attempts to improve the chromaticity of the emitted light by resonating a specific wavelength of the emitted light. However, when a full-color display is manufactured using an EL element, red (R), green (green) light is emitted. Since it is necessary to provide a resonator optimized for each pixel of (G) and blue (B), there is a problem that the manufacturing process is complicated and the cost is increased.
[0005]
The present invention has been made in view of such circumstances, and includes an electroluminescent device which can be easily manufactured at low cost and can improve chromaticity, a method of manufacturing the electroluminescent device, and the electroluminescent device. The purpose is to provide electronic equipment.
[0006]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to solve the above problem, an electroluminescence device according to the present invention, in an electroluminescence device having a light emitting layer, the thickness of the light emitting layer based on the wavelength of light emitted from a light emitting region in the light emitting layer. It is characterized by being set.
That is, when the light-emitting layer is provided between a first functional layer (for example, a hole injection / transport layer) and a second functional layer (for example, a cathode), light from the light-emitting layer is transmitted to the first functional layer. When the light is emitted from the layer side, the light emitted from the light emitting region is reflected at the interface between the first light, which is the light component directly propagating to the first functional layer side, and the second functional layer, and then the light emitted from the light emitting region is reflected. The light is divided into the second light, which is a light component that propagates to the first functional layer side. The interference state between the first light and the second light differs depending on the thickness of the light emitting layer. Therefore, by setting the thickness of the light emitting layer optimally based on the wavelength of the light emitted from the light emitting region, the first light and the second light can interfere with each other to enhance the specific wavelength. , Chromaticity can be improved.
[0007]
In the electroluminescent device according to the present invention, a specific wavelength of the light emitted from the light emitting region is enhanced by secondary interference of the light.
That is, the present inventor has found that a specific wavelength of light emitted from the light emitting layer can be effectively enhanced by secondary interference of light emitted from the light emitting region. Therefore, the chromaticity is significantly improved by setting the thickness of the light emitting layer so that the first light and the second light, which are light components emitted from the light emitting region, are in a condition that causes secondary interference. it can. Further, under the condition that secondary interference occurs, the light-emitting layer is thickened, so that the promotion of element deterioration is suppressed, the life of the element can be extended, and the reliability can be improved. For example, by increasing the film thickness, the amount of light emission per molecule of the light-emitting layer for obtaining the same luminance can be reduced. In other words, molecules that contribute to light emission are dispersed, so that the element (light-emitting layer ) A longer life can be realized. When the thickness of the light emitting layer is small, the distance between the anode and the cathode, which applies the electric field to the light emitting layer while sandwiching the light emitting layer, is short, and the possibility of short-circuit between the electrodes is increased. By increasing the thickness of the layer, the possibility of a short circuit can be reduced.
[0008]
In this case, the film thickness is set based on the optical distance in the film thickness direction of the light emitting layer according to the refractive index of the light emitting layer and the wavelength.
Here, the optical distance La of the light emitting layer is as follows, where n is the refractive index of the light emitting layer and d is the film thickness of the light emitting layer.
La = d × n (1)
It becomes. Therefore, by setting the actual film thickness d based on the optical distance La and the wavelength λ of the light emitted from the light emitting layer, the interference state between the first light and the second light can be optimized. For example, when the light emitting region is set near the interface between the light emitting layer and the first functional layer, the conditions for enhancing the light intensity by the interference between the first light and the second light are as follows. ,
La = ((2m + 1) / 4) λ (where m = 0, 1, 2,...) (2)
When m = 0, primary interference occurs, and when m = 1, secondary interference occurs.
[0009]
In this case, when blue light is emitted from the light-emitting region, the thickness of the light-emitting layer is preferably set in the range of 150 to 210 nm, more preferably 180 to 200 nm. Is preferred. As a result, the chromaticity of the blue light can be significantly improved.
[0010]
Similarly, when green light is emitted from the light-emitting region, the thickness of the light-emitting layer is preferably set in the range of 170 to 230 nm, more preferably 190 to 210 nm. Is preferred. By satisfying the film thickness condition, the chromaticity of green light can be significantly improved.
[0011]
In the electroluminescence device of the present invention, the film thickness is set so as to correct the wavelength of light emitted from the light emitting layer with respect to the wavelength of light emitted from the light emitting region. I do.
According to the present invention, by adjusting the thickness of the light-emitting layer, the wavelength of light emitted from the light-emitting layer can be corrected with respect to the wavelength of light emitted from the light-emitting region. It is possible to obtain emission light having a certain degree. For example, regardless of the case where the desired color is red, the color of light emitted from the light emitting region due to the characteristics of the light emitting layer forming material is not red having, for example, a desired chromaticity (that is, low purity). Red)), the film thickness is adjusted to adjust the interference state between the first light and the second light, and the peak wavelength (spectrum) after the interference is corrected, so that the light emission layer The color of the emitted light can be optimized.
[0012]
Therefore, when red light is emitted from the light emitting region, a light emission color having high purity chromaticity can be obtained by setting the thickness of the light emitting layer in the range of 120 to 200 nm.
[0013]
In the method for manufacturing an electroluminescent device according to the present invention, in the method for manufacturing an electroluminescent device having a light emitting layer, the thickness of the light emitting layer is set based on the wavelength of light emitted from a light emitting region in the light emitting layer. It is characterized by the following.
According to the present invention, the chromaticity of light emitted from the light emitting layer can be improved at low cost by a simple method such as adjusting the thickness of the light emitting layer.
In this case, in order to form each functional layer including the light emitting layer, for example, a droplet discharge method (inkjet method) can be employed. The droplet discharge method is a method of forming a pattern by discharging a liquid material from a discharge head of a droplet discharge device. Here, the discharge head of the droplet discharge device includes an inkjet head. The ink jet method may be a piezo jet method in which a fluid is discharged by a change in volume of the piezoelectric element, or a method using an electrothermal converter as an energy generating element. Note that a dispenser device may be used as the droplet discharge device. The liquid material refers to a medium having a viscosity that can be ejected from the nozzles of the ejection head. It does not matter whether it is aqueous or oily. It is sufficient that the material has fluidity (viscosity) that can be discharged from a nozzle or the like. Further, the solid substance contained in the liquid material may be dissolved by being heated to a temperature equal to or higher than the melting point, or may be dispersed as fine particles in a solvent. It may be.
Of course, when forming the functional layer including the light emitting layer, any coating method such as a spin coating method can be used.
[0014]
In the electroluminescent device according to the present invention, the film thickness is set so that a specific wavelength of the light emitted from the light emitting region is enhanced by secondary interference of the light.
According to the present invention, the color of the light-emitting layer is set by setting the thickness of the light-emitting layer so that the first light and the second light, which are light components emitted from the light-emitting region, cause secondary interference. The degree can be greatly improved.
[0015]
In the method of manufacturing an electroluminescence device according to the present invention, the film thickness is set based on the optical distance in the film thickness direction of the light emitting layer according to the refractive index of the light emitting layer and the wavelength.
According to the present invention, by setting the actual film thickness d based on the optical distance La and the wavelength λ of the light emitted from the light emitting layer, the interference state between the first light and the second light can be reduced. Can be optimized.
[0016]
In the method for manufacturing an electroluminescence device according to the present invention, the film thickness is adjusted, and a wavelength of light emitted from the light emitting layer is corrected with respect to a wavelength of light emitted from the light emitting region. .
According to the present invention, the light emitted from the light emitting layer is adjusted by adjusting the film thickness, adjusting the interference state between the first light and the second light, and correcting the peak wavelength (spectrum) after the interference. The color of the emitted light can be optimized.
[0017]
An electronic device according to another aspect of the invention includes the above-described electroluminescence device.
According to the present invention, it is possible to provide an electronic device having excellent emission characteristics and life characteristics because an electroluminescence device that can emit luminescence of high purity chromaticity and has a light-emitting layer with a large thickness is employed. Can be.
