Abstract
Description
【0001】
【0056】
まず、負帯電を与える変性高分子材料として、Licowax PED136(クリアラント社製、酸価約60mgKOH/g)を使用する。
【0083】
(5)実施例5
本実施例においては、白色部13aの組成を実施例2と同様にする一方で、実施例2の黒色部13bに更にCeridust9615A(クリアラント社製、アミド変性、酸価約8mgKOH/g)を5重量%混練した。

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to particles for display and a display device using the same.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In recent years, with the development of portable information terminals and advanced information communication networks, attention has been focused on the development of thin, lightweight, and highly portable display devices. Among them, display devices that change the optical absorption characteristics and optical reflection characteristics by an electric field to display images, and have the flexibility comparable to paper and the electronic information can be easily rewritten, so-called digital paper, electronic Expectations for display devices called paper and paper-like displays are increasing.
[0003]
As a display element whose optical absorption characteristics and optical reflection characteristics are changed by application of an electric field, there is disclosed a microscopic device disclosed in Japanese Patent Application No. 62-244679, in which a monochromatic particle for electrophoresis is dispersed in a coloring medium. Capsules. The color of the medium is displayed by moving the monochromatic particles in one direction (display surface side) in the microcapsule by electrophoresis, and the color of the medium is displayed by moving the monochromatic particles in the opposite direction. It is.
[0004]
Furthermore, by enclosing two types of monochromatic particles having different colors and charging characteristics in a transparent medium, the monochromatic particles of each color can be selectively moved to switch the display.
[0005]
Further, a display device using two-color rotating particles for a display device, in which each hemisphere is divided into different colors and charging characteristics, described in U.S. Pat. Nos. 4,148,103 and 4,216,854, is disclosed. , A display exhibiting excellent contrast characteristics. This display device has a structure having an optically transparent support having a plurality of gaps, and two-color rotating particles included in the gaps together with a dielectric liquid. Since each of the two-color rotating particles is divided into regions having different colors and different charging characteristics, when an electric field is applied, a rotating motion is caused, whereby an image can be displayed.
[0006]
These display devices using monochromatic particles or two-color rotating particles for electrophoresis have features such as a memory function capable of holding image information without a power supply and a reflective display, and furthermore, they have electrodes. Since it can be formed on a PET film or the like, it can be made a thin, light, and bendable sheet-type display device, and is expected as a substitute for paper.
[0007]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
By the way, in a display device driven by an electric field as described above, a reduction in driving voltage, an improvement in memory performance, and the like are desired. In order to fulfill this demand, it is effective to reduce the density of the monochromatic particles for electrophoresis and the two-color rotating particles so that these particles react quickly even in a weak electric field. Therefore, conventionally, as a base resin which is a main constituent material of each of the above particles, the density is 0.9 g / cm. 3 And very small polyolefin resins such as polyethylene and polypropylene.
[0008]
However, although the polyolefin-based resin has a low density, it has very little polarity and thus is very difficult to be charged. Therefore, a very high driving voltage is required to translate and rotate the particles in an electric field.
[0009]
The present invention has been made in view of the problems of the related art, and has as its object to provide display particles that can be driven at a lower driving voltage than before and a display device using the same.
[0010]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The above-described problem is a display particle having a plurality of regions that are color-coded to display a predetermined color by moving in a liquid by the action of an electric field, and to acidify a polymer material for displaying at least one color. The problem is solved by a display particle characterized in that a material having a functional group to provide or a functional group to provide basicity is added.
[0011]
Or, the surface is color-coded at least two colors, the display particles to move in a liquid by the action of an electric field and selectively display one of the two colors, one of the two colors The problem is solved by particles for display, characterized in that a material having a functional group for imparting acidity or basicity is contained in a portion for displaying.
[0012]
Next, the operation of the present invention will be described.
[0013]
According to the present invention, a material having a functional group that imparts acidity or basicity is added to the display particles so that the display particles can be easily positively or negatively charged. When placed, a region where the positive charge density or the negative charge density increases due to the electric field appears on the particle surface, and the region is easily charged. Thus, the display particles can be easily electrophoresed or rotated even with a small electric field.
[0014]
In particular, when the display particles are color-coded into at least two colors, by inverting the polarity of each color, the display particles respond more sensitively to a weak electric field. To reverse the polarity of each color, select an acidic functional group and a basic functional group in which the polarities of the charges to be charged are opposite to each other. May be made to contain a functional group that imparts acidity.
[0015]
As described above, the driving voltage of the display device using the above-described display particles is lower than that of the related art.
[0016]
In addition, in order to produce monochromatic display particles, a mixed material in which a material having a functional group that imparts acidity or basicity and a base material are mixed is prepared, and granules made of the mixed material are prepared. By heating the granules, the granules are turned into spheres for display.
[0017]
When the granules are heated in this way, not only the granules are made spherical, but also the effect that the functional groups in the granules are raised on the particle surface and the charging characteristics of the display particles are improved.
[0018]
The same effect is exerted when manufacturing display particles that are color-coded in at least two colors instead of a single color.
[0019]
