公共図書館や大学図書館においてもインターネットの普及に伴い、パソコン等の利用者端末から図書を予約することができる。このようなシステムでは通常、インターネットで図書館ホームページに接続し、予め登録している利用者が希望する図書情報をネットワークを介して受信し、予約時に予約番号など予約した人間を特定する番号を発行され、当日に図書館窓口で手続きを行う方法がとられており、しかも閲覧室予約との連携されたシステムは、一般には知られていない。

従来の予約システムでは閲覧室の予約は不可能であった。図書閲覧以外の利用者が使用することがあり、本来の目的である図書を閲覧する利用者が優先的に利用できていなかった。また、予約図書に関しては、予約しても貸出日時が確定せずに長期間書架に保存される場合があり、効率的に図書を運用することができなかった。

上記課題を解決するために請求項1に記載した予約システムでは、利用者端末と図書館管理サーバとそれらをつなぐネットワークを備えている。利用者端末は各種要求項目を入力する入力装置と予約手続き画面や予約状況画面を表示する出力装置を有し、管理サーバは図書や閲覧室の予約手続きを一括して行うことができるホームページと、図書情報や閲覧室予約状況を保持できる記憶装置を有している。ホームページでは、図書予約処理と、受取日時指定処理と、閲覧室予約処理とを一括して行うことができる。本予約システムでは、図書予約者のみが閲覧室を予約することができることになる。

以下に、本発明の基本的な実施形態について図1から図3を用いて説明する。
(システムの構成)
図1は、本発明による図書館総合予約システムの実施形態を示しており、利用者端末1は、表示装置11と入力装置12から構成されている。表示装置11はCRTディスプレィや液晶ディスプレィ等を、入力装置12はキーボードやマウス等を用いることで実現する。入力装置2はネットワークであり、インターネット等で実現する。3はサービス提供用のサーバ、31は制御装置、32は図書予約用記憶装置、33は閲覧室予約用記憶装置である。サーバにはパーソナルコンピュータ等の情報処理機器を用い、記憶装置には磁気ディスク装置等を用いることで実現できる。
(システムの処理手順)
次に、上述のように構成される図書館総合予約システムの処理手順を図1、2、3を用いて説明する。図3はそのフローチャートである。まず、利用者は図2における図書検索画面において利用者端末1の入力装置11を用いて必要事項を入力する(図3:図書検索手続き)。サーバは入力事項から検索パラメータを決定し、図書予約用記憶装置32より該当データを抽出し、図2における検索結果画面を表示装置11に表示する。利用者は検索結果の中から予約したい図書を選択し、決定ボタンを押下する(図3:図書予約確定)。次に、利用者は図2における予約図書情報画面において図書受取日時を指定し、閲覧室座席を予約する場合はラジオボタンを選択し、予約ボタンを押下する。(図3:図書受取日時入力、閲覧室座席予約)この時、サーバは入力日時の座席状況を閲覧室座席用記憶装置に問い合わせ、空席がなければメッセージを表示し(図3:メッセージ表示)、別の日時を指定して閲覧室座席を予約することができる。閲覧室座席を予約しない場合、座席予約図書予約用記憶装置の図書予約状況を更新して図書予約のみが確定する(図3:更新処理)。閲覧室座席を予約する場合、図書予約用記憶装置の図書予約状況と閲覧室座席用記憶装置用記憶装置の座席状況を更新して図書と座席の予約が確定する(図3:更新処理)。
