Abstract
Description
【0001】
【0047】

The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus using an electrophotographic method, such as a copying machine, a printer, a facsimile, and a multifunction peripheral thereof, and more particularly to an improvement in a cleaning technique of the image forming apparatus.
[0002]
[Prior art]
2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, image forming apparatuses such as copiers and printers using an electrophotographic system (electrostatic transfer system) have been widely known. In such an image forming apparatus, a toner image as a permanent image is obtained on a recording sheet by transferring a toner image onto a recording sheet by a final transfer body and then fixing the toner image. There is also known an image forming apparatus in which an intermediate transfer member is provided from an image carrier to a final transfer member, and a toner image is transferred onto a recording sheet through a plurality of transfers. For example, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2001-75448 describes an image forming apparatus having a total of three intermediate transfer members, a pair of a first intermediate transfer member and a second intermediate transfer member, as an intermediate transfer member. I have.
[0003]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, when a plurality of intermediate transfer members are provided, a plurality of power supplies for applying a transfer bias to each intermediate transfer member are also required, which complicates the apparatus and increases the cost and the size of the apparatus.
[0004]
The present invention has been made in view of such a technical problem, and an object of the present invention is to provide an image forming apparatus which has a simple configuration of a power supply unit and is advantageous in terms of cost and space.
[0005]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
That is, the present invention provides an image carrier, an image forming means for forming a toner image on the surface of the image carrier, an intermediate transfer device comprising at least one intermediate transfer member and in contact with the image carrier, And a potential gradient forming unit for forming a potential gradient between the image carrier, the intermediate transfer body, and the final transfer body, the potential gradient forming unit includes the intermediate transfer device. No transfer bias is applied to at least one of the intermediate transfer members. By adopting such a configuration, a power supply unit for at least one intermediate transfer member is not required, and the configuration of the apparatus is simple, which is advantageous in terms of cost and space. If the present invention is applied to an image forming apparatus having a plurality of intermediate transfer members, the effect is large. Note that the toner image as an output image on the image carrier is transferred to the recording sheet conveyed between the intermediate transfer body and the final transfer body via the intermediate transfer body by the potential gradient. is there.
[0006]
Here, the potential gradient forming means can apply a DC transfer bias to the final transfer body. On the other hand, the intermediate transfer member to which no transfer bias is applied may be electrically grounded via a constant voltage element (for example, a zener diode, a varistor, etc.) or may be (simply) electrically floated.
[0007]
Further, the present invention may be applied to a single-color image forming apparatus, or may be applied to a multi-color image forming apparatus. As the latter embodiment, for example, the image carrier may include a plurality of image carriers for different colors, and the intermediate transfer device may include one intermediate transfer member, or may include a plurality of intermediate transfer members. May be.
[0008]
That is, a plurality of image carriers for different colors are provided as the image carrier, and a first upstream intermediate transfer body that contacts a part of the plurality of image carriers as the intermediate transfer device; A first downstream intermediate transfer member that comes into contact with the remaining part of the carrier, and a first upstream intermediate transfer member that contacts the first upstream intermediate transfer member and the first downstream intermediate transfer member A second intermediate transfer member to which the toner image is transferred from the first downstream intermediate transfer member after the toner image is transferred from the second intermediate transfer member, and the final transfer member may be in contact with the second intermediate transfer member. Good. More specifically, four image carriers for yellow, magenta, cyan, and black are provided as the image carriers, and two of the four image carriers are used as the intermediate transfer device. Contacting the first upstream intermediate transfer member and the first downstream intermediate transfer member, and contacting the first upstream intermediate transfer member and the first downstream intermediate transfer member, A second intermediate transfer member on which the toner image is transferred from the first downstream intermediate transfer member after the toner image is transferred from the transfer member, wherein the final transfer member contacts the second intermediate transfer member. It may be something.
[0009]
Here, if the electric resistance of the second intermediate transfer member is equal to or higher than the electric resistance of the first intermediate transfer member, it is preferable that the toner image can be transferred more stably. Further, from the viewpoint of enabling a more stable transfer of the toner image regardless of the surrounding environment, an environment detecting means for measuring the surrounding temperature and / or humidity, and a temperature and / or humidity measurement result. And control means for controlling the DC transfer bias.
[0010]
The surface roughness (Rz) of the final transfer member can be set to 20 μm (Rz) or less, and the surface roughness (Rz) of the intermediate transfer member can be set to 10 μm (Rz) or less. It can be. Further, the final transfer member can be configured to have a larger surface circular roughness (Rz) than the intermediate transfer member. These surface roughnesses (Rz) are preferably not more than the average particle diameter of the toner constituting the toner image. Satisfying these conditions is preferable because the residual toner easily transfers from the final transfer member to the intermediate transfer member (second intermediate transfer member). In addition, the surface of the final transfer body can be constituted by a resin coat layer or a resin tube layer.
[0011]
