2. Description of the Related Art Aluminum wheels are light weight parts that make full use of strength and, at the same time, are products that require design. In particular, as a recent trend, an increasing number of customers prefer aluminum wheels having a metallic luster on the design side.
In order to give a metallic lustered appearance to the surface of a base material such as metal or plastic, conventionally, chromium has been directly plated on the design surface of the wheel or vacuum deposition of aluminum has been performed. . But with these methods,
All of them required large-scale equipment and pretreatment, resulting in many manufacturing processes and high production costs.

On the other hand, instead of metal plating, a glitter coating is also applied to the design surface of the wheel, a typical example of which is metallic coating. That is, in the metallic coating using the resin coating containing non-leafing type aluminum, the coating film containing the scale-like aluminum having a thickness of more than 0.1 μm is used.
A metallic feeling was obtained by setting the thickness to 0 μm or more.
In such a metallic coating, when the coating film is thinned to obtain a plating-like appearance, the scale-like aluminum is thick, and the resin layer serving as a binder is also thick, so that the scale-like aluminum is laminated in layers. Instead, they are randomly placed. Therefore, a diffused reflection state occurs, and even a metallic feeling is lost rather than a plating tone. As described above, since the surface of cast aluminum is porous, it is extremely difficult to obtain a defect-free design surface when a plating-like coating, which is basically a thin film coating, is applied to a casting wheel.

As one of the above-mentioned solutions, there is known a method of directly applying a plating-like coating to the design surface of the wheel. As this prior art, Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2000-140748
There is a gazette. On the other hand, defects such as pinholes are present on the design surface of the cast aluminum wheel, and in order to eliminate the influence of these defects and bring out the glitter corresponding to metal plating, the smoothness of the surface of the undercoat film should be considerably It is necessary to keep the accuracy of. However, this measure does not disclose this measure. Furthermore, since the undercoat paint is directly applied to the design surface of the wheel, there is no limitation on the curing reaction temperature of the paint,
Since paints with a high curing reaction temperature can also be used, the selection range of paints was wide.

On the other hand, a method is also known in which a plastic panel (also called a resin panel) member having a decorative plating layer is attached to the wheel design surface. As this prior art, there is JP-A-6-72101. In this publication, in order to eliminate the harmful effects of the porosity of cast aluminum wheels,
A technique is disclosed in which a plastic panel is chrome-plated and the panel is permanently fixed (also referred to as sticking) to the wheel design surface with a curable adhesive. In the case of chrome (metal) plating, the processing temperature of plating is low, so
It can also be easily plated on plastic panels. However, in this method, plating equipment is required, and there is a problem of plating solution treatment.
It was necessary to consider the environment. Therefore, it was not so good in terms of production efficiency.

The resin panel coated with the plating-like paint according to the present invention is attached to the entire design surface of the wheel, so that the resin panel looks like the outer surface of the cast aluminum wheel itself. As a result, cast aluminum wheels are attractive composite wheels due to their aesthetic styling. The resin panel need only provide the wheel with a reflective surface. This resin panel is permanently fixed to the wheel and does not look like an attachment to the wheel. Therefore, it cannot be stolen or accidentally dislodged like a conventional wheel cover. Further, since the wheel design surface and the resin panel back surface are adhered with a curable adhesive and are manufactured as a thin panel structure that forms the appearance of the design surface of the wheel, there is great design flexibility.

Here, a method of attaching the resin panel to the entire design surface of the wheel will be described. As shown in FIG. 3, the vehicle wheel includes a disc portion 21, a rim portion 22, a hub portion 23, and the like. The design surface is, as shown in FIG. 2, five bolt holes 25 for mounting the wheel on the main shaft from the outer peripheral portion of the front surface of the wheel to the wheel center.
Up to the innermost through hole 27. The shape of the panel 5 is determined so as to cover the entire part. In this case, the shape may be exactly the same as the design surface. Further, as shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, the panel 5 may have a shape different from the wheel design surface. With such a configuration, the design of the design surface of the wheel itself can target only the functional surface such as strength. Therefore, the resin panel is responsible for the design of the wheel. In this case, the cavity 26 is formed on the back surface of the resin panel 5. The curable adhesive is applied to the portion where the wheel itself and the resin panel come into contact with each other. As described above, by forming the resin panel 5 in a shape different from the wheel design surface, the wheel can be designed in consideration of only the functional surface, and the weight of the wheel can be further reduced.

Next, this resin panel can be applied to injection-moldable resins such as polystyrene (PS), polypropylene (PP) and nylon, but it is excellent in heat resistance and impact resistance and has good adhesion to a coating film. It is preferably formed from a good acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) copolymer or a polymer alloy of poly-carbonate (PC) and ABS. Further, by setting the thickness of the resin panel in the range of about 2 mm to about 4 mm, sufficient impact strength is imparted and the adverse effect on the coating film due to the temperature rise of the wheel itself during traveling is eliminated. be able to.

The plating-like coating film is formed as follows. First, a solvent paint capable of forming a color base coating film on a resin panel has a film thickness of 5 to 50 μm after drying.
Apply undercoat to achieve m. Here, if the thickness of the undercoat coating film is thinner than 5 μm, the tint cannot be sufficiently developed, and if it is thicker than 50 μm, problems such as sagging during coating occur. In addition, a color pigment is mixed with the undercoat paint in order to color the undercoat coating film. As a color pigment,
A general pigment used for coloring a resin, for example, carbon black (black), aluminum powder (silver), iron oxide (red), titanium oxide (white), etc. is appropriately selected and used. Next, a thickness of 0.01 to 0.1 μm and a diameter of 1 to 100
An intermediate coating composition containing an ultrathin film scale aluminum having a thickness of μm is applied so that the film thickness after drying is 0.1 to 2 μm. Here, when the thickness of the intermediate coating film becomes thinner than 0.1 μm, the color of the base coat becomes strong and a plating feeling cannot be obtained, and when it becomes thicker than 2 μm, the ultra-thin film scale aluminum is not laminated in a layered form but randomly arranged. Next becomes a metallic tone. Further, when the thickness of the intermediate coating film is large, the adhesion between the layers becomes weak even if the intermediate coating film is laminated in layers, and the adhesion test of the coating film cannot be passed.

Next, a method for improving the adhesion of the coating film will be described. What is important in carrying out intermediate coating is to coat the coating film formed by the coating composition for intermediate coating (ultra-thin film scale aluminum) so as to be discontinuous in order to improve interlayer adhesion. Further, it is also preferable to perform the top coating in a state where the coating film formed by the intermediate coating is not completely cured in order to improve the interlayer adhesion. Furthermore, the coating composition for intermediate coating contains 0.5 to 5 parts by weight of a binder resin with respect to 1 part by weight of ultrathin film scaly aluminum, and 1% by weight of ultrathin film scaly aluminum.
It is effective that the solvent is contained in an amount of 50 to 200 parts by weight with respect to parts by weight.

Next, a method for finishing the chrome plating tone will be described in detail below based on the relationship between the undercoat paint and the intermediate paint. In order to carry out a slightly blackish chrome plating tone which has become popular recently, the undercoat paint containing carbon black should have a thickness after drying of 5 to 50 μm, preferably a thickness after drying of 20 to 40 μm. To form a smooth black coating film. Next, the intermediate coating material is applied so that the film thickness after drying becomes 0.1 to 2 μm, preferably the film thickness after drying becomes 0.2 to 1 μm. When the film thickness of the intermediate coating film is within this range, the ratio of the intermediate coating ultrathin film scaly aluminum which becomes discontinuous to cover the colored portion of the undercoat can be changed. That is, by controlling the thickness of the intermediate coating film, it is possible to improve the interlayer adhesion of the intermediate coating ultra-thin film scale-like aluminum and to control the brightness of the plating-like coating film discontinuously. The same can be done for other shades. Here, by setting the thickness of the intermediate coating film in the range of 0.2 to 1 μm, the ultrathin film scale aluminum is laminated discontinuously, and the brightness of the plating-like coating film can be easily adjusted to a desired level. You can control it.

Next, the ultrathin film scaly aluminum which is the composition of the intermediate coating composition will be described. If the thickness of this ultra-thin film flake-shaped aluminum is less than 0.01 μm, it cannot be industrially produced, and if it exceeds 0.1 μm, the plating feeling is lost and a metallic tone is obtained. Furthermore, when the diameter of the ultrathin film flake aluminum is smaller than 1 μm, the flake aluminum in the coating film is randomly arranged, and a plating feeling cannot be obtained. When it exceeds 100 μm, flake aluminum cannot be industrially produced.

Finally, a colored or non-colored solvent clear paint is top-coated so that the film thickness after drying is 5 to 50 μm. Here, when the film thickness of the top coating film is thinner than 5 μm, the weather resistance of the coating film is lost, and when it is thicker than 50 μm, defects such as sagging occur during coating. In this way, a resin panel having a decorative coating film having a plating-like appearance composed of three layers of coating film can be formed. The curable adhesive 6 is used to adhere the resin-made panel on which the plating-like coating film is formed and the wheel design surface. The adhesive 6 may be applied to the entire back surface (unpainted surface) of the resin panel 5, or may be applied only to the inner and outer peripheral edges of the resin panel 5.

Next, another embodiment will be described with reference to FIGS. As described in paragraph 0011, this embodiment is an embodiment in which the shape of the resin panel is different from the shape of the design surface of the vehicle wheel. The vehicle wheel 90 shown in FIG. 4 is a wheel further reduced in weight because it focuses only on functional aspects such as strength and does not consider the design aspect. There are 10 large and small spaces called wheel windows, which is quite poor in terms of design.
By forming the resin panel according to the present invention into the shape shown in FIG. 2, a composite wheel having five window portions 24 as in the previously described embodiment is obtained. In this case, the resin panel has a BB cross section (shown in FIG. 5) in FIG. 4, and the curable adhesive 6 is applied to a portion where the resin panel 5 and the vehicle wheel 90 are in contact with each other.

(1) According to the present invention, the surface of the cast aluminum wheel can be formed separately from the outer shape and styling of the wheel, so that the optimum design for weight reduction can be achieved. At the same time, the resin panel with the plating-like coating creates a reflective aesthetically pleasing wheel appearance. This resin panel does not look like a separately formed panel, but looks like a metal-plated integral wheel. Therefore, it is possible to efficiently impart a high-class feeling to the cast aluminum wheel. (2) By setting the thickness of the intermediate coating film in the range of 0.2 to 1 μm, the ultrathin film scale aluminum is laminated discontinuously, and the brightness of the plating-like coating film can be easily adjusted to a desired level. You can control it. (3) The shape of the resin panel and the shape of the design surface of the vehicle wheel can be made different, and the weight of the vehicle wheel can be further reduced while keeping the design of the wheel high.
