Description

The present invention further relates to a toothbrush having a three-dimensional bristle profile to provide improved cleaning of tooth roots and gum margins. Tooth brushing and flossing are the basic steps to good oral hygiene. Unfortunately, the practice of flossing has not been widely accepted by the public, although the public understands that flossing should be done as part of good oral hygiene. Was. Furthermore, even a person who occasionally flosses cannot easily and properly floss the whole mouth. Unfortunately, although many commercially useful toothbrushes can clean the buccal surfaces outside the teeth, they have rounded plaques and debris at the gum edges, No improved cleaning could be performed on the in-between, tongue-facing surfaces and other hard-to-reach parts of the mouth. One reason such toothbrushes cannot adequately clean the most posterior molars (eg, unknowing or secondary molars) is that one or more tufts attached to the toothbrush head located furthest from the toothbrush handle. ) Are not angled or bent in the direction along the head extending from the handle. Thus, the tuft does not extend sufficiently beyond the end of the toothbrush head to sufficiently clean the posterior teeth behind the mouth. Further, in the brush having tufts of hair angled or bent to the handle, and the other tufts bending away from the handle, all such tufts are essentially the same length, They have the same cross section. As a result, such curved tufts can be cleaned in a manner that fills a portion of the tooth, but other portions of the tooth can be cleaned sufficiently because the tufts are of uniform length, spacing, and cross-section. Did not. In addition, some prior art toothbrushes provided with tufts of hair having at most three different types of cross sections. However, more than three tooth portions are required for cleaning with a brush (e.g., the outer cheek-facing surface, gum edges, between the roots, the tongue-facing surface, and the most posterior molars). Thus, conventional brushes did not have well-variable cross-section tufts specifically designed to clean all parts of the teeth. The present invention is intended to overcome one or more of the problems set forth above. Briefly summarizing one aspect of the present invention, a toothbrush comprises a handle, a head extending from the handle, and a plurality of tufts of bristles fixed or attached to the head. One of the tufts is secured at a position more distal to the handle than where one tuft is secured to the head and at a location where none of the other tufts are secured. One tuft is angled or bent about 81 ° with respect to an imaginary line tangent or flush with the face of the head via one tuft secured to the head. One tuft is sloped away from the handle with respect to the direction along the head where the head extends from the handle. By bending one tuft as described above, the tuft can extend beyond the end of the head of the toothbrush, thereby providing a sufficiently clean posterior molar behind the mouth. According to another aspect of the present invention, a toothbrush includes a handle, a head extending from the handle, and a plurality of bristle tufts secured to a head. The two tufts each make an acute angle to an imaginary line tangent or flush with the face of the head via the two tufts secured to the head. The two tufts have different characteristics selected from the group of properties consisting of length, cross section, color, material and their combination. Providing a bent tuft that varies in length, cross-section, color, material and its combination can clean more than a portion of a tooth with this bent tuft. For example, one type of bent tuft can clean the buccal surface of the tooth, and another type of bent tuft can clean the root of the tooth. A third aspect of the present invention is to provide a toothbrush having a handle, a head extending from the handle, and various tufts of bristles secured to the head. Tuft diversity comprises tufts with at least five different types of cross-sections. By providing a tuft having at least five types of cross-sections, such a tuft may suitably be applied to all parts of the teeth (eg, cheek-facing outer surface, gum margin, root-to-root portion, tongue-facing surface) And the most posterior molars) can be cleaned. These and other aspects, objects, features and advantages of the present invention will be clearly understood from the following detailed description of preferred embodiments of the present invention, the appended claims, and the accompanying drawings. Would. DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a toothbrush according to an embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 2 is a plan view of the toothbrush of FIG. FIG. 3 is a side view of the toothbrush of FIG. 4 and 5 are partial side views of the head and associated parts of the tuft of the toothbrush of FIG. FIG. 6 is a partial cross-sectional view of the head of the toothbrush along line 6-6 of FIG. FIG. 7 is a perspective view of a part of the head and handle of the toothbrush of FIG. 1 to 3, the toothbrush 10 has a handle portion 12 and a head portion 14 extending from the handle in the D direction. The total length of the toothbrush 10 is preferably about 19.6 cm, and the width of the head 14 is preferably about 1.3 cm at the widest part. The main portion 16 of the handle 12 and the head 14 are composed of a single piece of polypropylene. The thumb grip portion 18, the optional trademark 24 (preferably about 2.1 cm long) and the finger grip portion 20 are preferably thermoplastic elastomers, preferably kraton rubber (Shore A between about 5 and about 70). Styrene and butadiene or isoprene having hydrogenated or non-hydrogenated oil-filled block copolymer). Thumb grip portion 18 and finger grip portion 20 have a series of 17 raised ribs 22 to assist in gripping the handle. The ribs 22 preferably have a width of 1.3 mm. 3-7, a plurality of tufts 26 of bristles are fixedly attached to the head 14 of the toothbrush. Each tuft is made up of a number of bristles, all bristles preferably having rounded ends. Five different types of tufts are secured to the head, with each type of tuft having a cross-section that differs in area and shape from the other types of tufts. The first type of tuft 28 consists of bristles made of PBT with an abrasive such as kaolin clay molecules mixed throughout polybutylene terephthalate (PBT). Such bristles are between 0.13E and 0.23mm in diameter, preferably 0.18mm in diameter. The length of the bristles measured from the face 30 of the head 14 is about 11.2 mm. Sectional area which is tufted tufts 28 is about 24 mm 2, the volume of the tuft measured from the head surface of about 0.2 7 cm 3 (during this volume is preferably from about 0.25 cm 3 to 0.29 cm 3 In). Only one type 28 tuft is attached to the head 14, which is furthest from the handle 14 than the other tufts. The second type 32 of tufts is made from nylon indicator (TM) type bristles and is made of 6.12 nylon and the outer surface is tinted blue. As is well known to those skilled in the art, the blue coloration of such bristles gradually wears out when the brush is used for an extended period, indicating a wear limit for the toothbrush. The bristles are between 0.13 mm and 0.23 mm in diameter, preferably 0.18 mm in diameter. The length of the bristles measured from the face 30 of the head 14 is about 8.9 mm. The cross-sectional area of each tuft 32 is about 2.9 mm. As shown in FIG. 6, the tuft of the mold 32 has a round cross section. Between 8 and 12 mold 32 tufts are attached to the head 14. The tufts of the third mold 34 are composed of bristles made of PBT with an abrasive such as kaolin clay molecules mixed throughout the PBT. The bristles are 0.13 mm to 0.23 mm in diameter, preferably 0.18 mm in diameter. The length of the bristles measured from the face 30 of the head 14 is about 11.2 mm. The cross-sectional area of each tuft 34 is about 1.7 mm 2 . Between eight and twelve tufts of mold 32 are attached to head 14. As shown in FIG. 6, the tufts of the mold 34 are rectangular and have rounded ends. The fourth mold 36 tuft is composed of bristles made of PBT with an abrasive such as kaolin clay molecules mixed throughout the PBT. The bristles are 0.13 mm to 0.23 mm in diameter, preferably 0.18 mm in diameter. The length of the bristles measured from the face 30 of the head 14 is about 11.2 mm. The cross-sectional area of each tuft 36 is about 2.6 mm 2 . Four to six tufts of molds 36 are attached to head 14. As shown in FIG. 6, the tufts of the mold 36 are rectangular with rounded ends and are wider in the lateral direction of the head than the tufts of the mold 34. The fifth and last mold tresses are composed of bristles made of PBT with an abrasive such as kaolin clay molecules mixed throughout the PBT. The bristles are between 0.13 mm and 0.23 mm in diameter, preferably 0.15 mm in diameter. The length of the bristles measured from the face 30 of the head 14 is about 8.9 mm. The cross-sectional area of each tuft 38 is about 5.4 mm 2 . Four to six tufts of molds 38 are attached to head 14. As shown in FIG. 6, the tufts of the mold 38 are rectangular with rounded ends and are wider than the tufts of the mold 36. As described above, with respect to the cross-sectional area of each tuft, the tuft of the mold 28 has a cross section that is four times or more larger than any other tuft attached to the head 14. Although it has been described that the hair of each tuft is composed of a particular material as described above, other materials can be used. Any bristles attached to the head 11 are typically made of PBT with or without abrasives, such as kaolin clay, 6.12 nylon with or without abrasives, or nylon with or without abrasives Consists of an indicator (trademark). In addition, bristles within and between tufts can vary in length, diameter, cross-sectional shape, cross-sectional area, color, and are composed of different materials. As shown in FIGS. 2, 4, 5 and 7, all tufts of the head 14 are preferably in the direction D or in the opposite direction to the imaginary line tangent to the face 30 of the head 14 in the direction 8 1. Below, more preferably between about 69 ° and about 81 °, and most preferably at an angle of 75 °. If surface 30 is not curved but rather flat, line 40 will be flush with surface 30. The two outer rows 42 of tufts are angled with respect to direction D in a direction away from handle 12. The inner row of tufts 44 is inclined toward the handle 12 in a direction opposite to the direction D 1, except for a large tuft 28 which is inclined away from the handle 12 with respect to the direction D. The toothbrush 10 is manufactured by the following method as is well known to those skilled in the art. Each tuft of bristles has a selected material, length and diameter, and the tufts are formed by collecting the desired amount of the tufts together. The tufts are then inserted into some openings in the mold of the injection molding machine. The ends of the tufts that are in or inserted into the mold recess are melted and the bristles are joined together to form a molten mass or ball at the ends of the tufts. The mold part supporting the tuft is joined with the other part of the mold that integrally defines the recess used to form the main part 16 of the toothbrush. The molten cluster of tufts is placed in the recess. Then polypropylene is injected into the recess to mold the portion 16 of the toothbrush 10. The polypropylene is cooled where the partially completed toothbrush is moved to the second injection molding station. The cooled and solidified polypropylene secures the molten mass of tufts to the head 14 of the toothbrush. At the second injection molding station, the partially completed brush is pressed into a second mold having a recess to form the thumb grip portion 18, trademark 24 and finger grip portion 20.
