Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a heavy metal sequestrant that does not deteriorate in its ability to sequester heavy metals and is nonproblematic in scale formation even when it is in the form of a dilute aqueous solution by mixing a water-soluble or water-dispersible heavy metal sequestrant component having the property of forming an insoluble metal complex with a tartrate. SOLUTION: This sequestrant comprises a water-soluble or water-dispersible heavy metal sequestrant component having the property of forming an insoluble metal complex and 0.01-10 wt.%, based on the sequestrant component, tartrate. The sequestrant may be a solid type containing the active ingredient or a liquid type prepared by dissolving the ingredient in an aqueous solvent. The sequestrant is used in the state dissolved in an aqueous medium. The sequestrant is excellent in the performance of trapping and sequestering heavy metals, especially, mercury, cadmium, arsenic, lead, hexavalent chromium, selenium, copper, zinc, manganese, and iron or compounds thereof and can be advantageously used in treatment of waste water, waste liquor, waste gas and solid waste containing such heavy metals.

2. Description of the Related Art Heavy metals contained in industrial wastewater and various wastewaters are harmful to some extent, and mercury, cadmium, arsenic, lead, hexavalent chromium, and selenium are subject to regulation among heavy metals. Heavy metals that are harmful to the human body can pollute rivers and seas and cause serious environmental problems. In addition, slag discharged from mines, incinerated ash from garbage incineration plants, used sludge at wastewater treatment plants, heavy metals contained in contaminated soil such as factory sites, etc. also elute into rivers and the sea. It has been pointed out that secondary pollution may occur. For this reason, particularly strict regulations are set when treating wastewater such as industrial wastewater containing heavy metals, or solid waste such as slag, incineration ash, sludge, soil and the like.

[0004] Conventionally, as described in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 9-268279, a chemical injection pump for adding an aqueous solution of a metal fixing agent to wastewater or solid waste during treatment of heavy metals using the metal fixing agent has been proposed. In order to prevent the pipe from being blocked by calcium scale or the like, it binds to a metal to form an insoluble metal complex, but itself has a water-soluble or water-dispersible heavy metal fixing component such as diethyldithiocarbamate, and calcium. And a water-soluble metal complex-forming agent that forms a water-soluble metal complex by combining with a hardness component such as magnesium or the like. Known metal fixing agents include EDTA, polycarboxylic acids, and phosphorus as water-soluble metal complex-forming agents. It is also known that acids can be used.

As described above, a heavy metal fixing component capable of reacting with a heavy metal to form an insoluble metal complex is added in the form of an aqueous solution, and the heavy metal in wastewater or solid waste is converted into an insoluble metal complex. In the case of fixing treatment, water containing a hard component such as calcium such as secondary wastewater is often used as dilution water for heavy metal fixing components. In such a case, scale adheres to a chemical injection pump or a pipe of a chemical dissolution tank, and In addition, there is a problem that an aqueous solution of a heavy metal fixing component such as diethyldithiocarbamate is generally alkaline. Therefore, when an acidic substance is used, the reaction thereof decomposes diethyldithiocarbamate.

EFFECTS OF THE INVENTION The use of the heavy metal fixing agent of the present invention can be carried out without disturbing the excellent heavy metal fixing ability inherent in heavy metal fixing components such as diethyldithiocarbamate, and without decomposing them by addition. By selectively trapping the calcium component in the solution, the formation of precipitates such as calcium scale in the aqueous solution of the heavy metal fixing agent is greatly suppressed, and the aqueous solution of the heavy metal fixing agent is added to wastewater or solid waste. There is no risk of clogging pumps and pipes being blocked.
