本物品は、鋼板素材等をプレス成形等することによって形成され、主に家屋の笠木下部分等において換気部材として使用される。本物品の使用に際しては、「使用状態を示す参考端面図」の記載を参照して、例えば家屋の笠木において外壁下地材及び外壁材とその上方に設置される笠木との間の笠木下部分に設置される。このように設置された本物品は、屈曲部により、垂直部の開口から雨水が換気部材の傾斜部を超えて建物内に浸入することを防止しながら、図の二重矢印で示すように胴縁の間（通気層）を上ってきた空気を外部に排出する。
