Abstract

An adjusting device is disclosed which provides an automatic search of backrest inclination of a chair, and locking and unlocking of the oscillation movement of the backrest, in which the backrest (not shown) engages one end of a retained helicoidal compression spring (1,Fig.2), an opposite end of which is retained by a main support body (2). At least one of two pins (5,6,Fig. 1), movable relative to the main support body by a sliding tie-rod (13), transversely engages via holes (410,Fig.4) an end of a sliding rod 4 which is coaxial to the spring. The rod is connected at a first end to the main support body by a concentric socket (3,Fig.4), which is longitudinally movable, and connected at a second end to the spring which engages with the backrest. The device may be used for an office chair of the type with a base on which a column stands, that is also height adjustable, and supports by a main support body at least one backrest.
