Description
DESCRIZIONE dell’invenzione industriale dal titolo: "Dispositivo di micro-relè a controllo elettrostatico '' DESCRIPTION of the industrial invention entitled: "Electrostatic control micro-relay device ''
TESTO DELLA DESCRIZIONE TEXT OF THE DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to an electrostatic control micro-relay device.
In the past, electrostatic motors of low power and small dimensions suitable for use as actuators in applications of microelectronics technology, for operating mechanical devices and the like in conditions in which vibrations occur, such as for example in the automotive field, have already been proposed. These electrostatic actuators make use of flexible sheets, also called cilia, or "petals", electrically conductive, each having one end associated with a stator and the opposite end adjacent to a translator. The application of voltage pulses between the petals and an electrode associated with the translator causes the petals to adhere to the translator by electrostatic effect with the consequent movement of the latter with respect to the stator.
L., Konyaskin V. v., Potapov B. S. e Pyankov Yu. A., "Prospects of thè Employment of Synchrotron Radiation in film elettrostatic attuator technology", Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, A359 (1995), pagine 394-395. An actuator of the type indicated above is described for example in Dyatlov v. L., Konyaskin V. v., Potapov B. S. and Pyankov Yu. A., "Prospects of the Employment of Synchrotron Radiation in film electrostatic actuator technology", Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, A359 (1995), pages 394-395.
The object of the present invention is to propose a new and improved type of micro-relay.
In order to achieve this purpose, the object of the invention is a micro-relay device, characterized in that it comprises:
- una base di sopporto, recante un elettrodo ed una coppia di contatti elettrici fissi, fra loro distanziati, situati ai due lati dell'elettrodo, e - un petalo mobile, comprendente un film sottile di materiale elettricamente conduttore, avente almeno una prima estremità connessa alla base di sopporto ed una parte mobile recante un contatto mobile che presenta porzioni di estremità sporgenti lateralmente dal petalo, - a support base, carrying an electrode and a pair of fixed electrical contacts, spaced apart, located on the two sides of the electrode, and - a mobile petal, comprising a thin film of electrically conductive material, having at least a first connected end at the support base and a movable part bearing a movable contact which has end portions protruding laterally from the petal,
detto petalo essendo atto ad essere richiamato per effetto elettrostatico verso detto elettrodo quando viene applicata tensione fra detto petalo e detto elettrodo, in modo tale per cui le porzioni di estremità di detto contatto mobile entrano in impegno rispettivamente con la suddetta coppia di contatti elettrici fissi. said petal being able to be recalled by electrostatic effect towards said electrode when voltage is applied between said petal and said electrode, in such a way that the end portions of said movable contact respectively enter into engagement with said pair of fixed electrical contacts.
In a preferred embodiment, the petal has both its ends connected to the support base and carries a second mobile contact intended to cooperate with a second pair of fixed contacts arranged on the support base on the two sides of a second electrode. In this preferred embodiment, it is possible to alternatively cause the closure of the first movable contact on the first pair of fixed contacts or of the second movable contact on the second pair of fixed contacts by alternately applying voltage between the petal and the first electrode or between the petal and the second electrode.
Ulteriori caratteristiche e i vantaggi dell'invenzione risulteranno dalla descrizione che segue con riferimento ai disegni annessi, forniti a puro titolo di esempio non limitativo, in cui: Further characteristics and advantages of the invention will emerge from the following description with reference to the attached drawings, provided purely by way of non-limiting example, in which:
la figura 1 è una vista prospettica schematica di una forma preferita di attuazione del micro-relè secondo l'invenzione, Figure 1 is a schematic perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the micro-relay according to the invention,
le figure 2, 3, 4, sono rispettivamente una vista laterale, una vista di estremità ed una vista in pianta del micro-relè della figura 1, Figures 2, 3, 4 are respectively a side view, an end view and a plan view of the micro-relay of Figure 1,
le figure 5, 6 illustrano anch'esse una vista laterale del micro-relè della figura 1, ma in due differenti condizioni di funzionamento, e Figures 5, 6 also show a side view of the micro-relay of Figure 1, but in two different operating conditions, and
Figures 7, 8 also show end views of the micro-relay according to the invention in the two operating conditions of Figures 5, 6.
In the drawings, the number 1 indicates as a whole a device comprising two electrostatic micro-relays. The device 1 comprises a support base 2, or substrate and a movable part 3. The support base 2 is constituted by a sheet 4 of alumina, or silicon, or glass, or plastic material, depending on the applications, with a thickness of a few millimeters. Two distinct electrodes 5, 6 are formed on the sheet 4, for example by evaporation, sputtering or screen printing). Subsequently, the surface is insulated with a layer 7 of dielectric or ferroelectric material with a thickness ranging from one tenth to a few tens of micrometers.
The mobile part 3 consists of a petal 8 in the form of a metal film, made by evaporation or sputtering with a thickness of a few micrometers and a length of between a few hundred micrometers and a few millimeters. On the surface of the film 8, in two distinct zones in the central part of it, two layers of insulating dielectric 9 with a thickness of a few micrometers are formed. Above the layers 9 two bars of electrically conductive material 10 acting as mobile contacts are formed by evaporation and subsequently by electrodeposition. The moving contacts 10 have a thickness of a few hundred micrometers, sized according to the current destined to flow through them. The petal 8 is fixed at both its ends on the surface of the base 2.
Above the base 2, on the two sides of the dielectric layer 7, are positioned two pairs of fixed contacts 11, 12 respectively connected to two pairs of electric tracks 13, 14 intended to be connected to an electric circuit.
As clearly visible in Figures 5, 6, by applying an electrical voltage between the petal 8 and the first electrode 5 or between the petal 8 and the second electrode 6, an electrostatic adhesion is caused on one side or the other side of the petal 8 above the base 2. Correspondingly, 1 of the two moving contacts 10 engages with the corresponding pair of fixed contacts 11 or 12, so as to close the circuit of the two electrical tracks 13 or of the two electrical tracks 14. Upon termination of the power supply of an electric voltage between the petal and one of the two electrodes 5, 6, the petal β returns to the position illustrated in Figures 1, 2 due to its elasticity.
Naturally, without prejudice to the principle of the invention, the details of construction and the embodiments may vary widely with respect to what has been described and illustrated purely by way of example.
In particular, it is evident that the invention also applies to the case in which a petal 8 is provided which is provided with a single movable contact 10 and cooperates with a single electrode 5, in association with a single pair of movable contacts 11. It is it is also evident that the petal 8 can have any conformation and be connected to the fixed part of the device even at one end only.
