Description
Descrizione dell’invenzione industriale dal titolo: Description of the industrial invention entitled:
"Pot with water reserve for growing indoor plants."
The subject of the invention is a pot for the cultivation of green indoor plants shaped in such a way as to create a water reserve and equipped with measures and devices designed to: create an optimal moistening of the cultivation soil, avoiding the continuous watering; recreate the natural conditions for plant growth, with the surface layer of the soil sufficiently dry and the deep layers gradually more humid; ensure a long water reserve to facilitate plant maintenance; indicate when the water reserve needs to be recreated; .
Currently, the operation of water reservoirs for plant cultivation is mainly based on two systems, each with different variants.
The first, and most common, adopts a water tank lower than the soil container and separated from it. Between the two there is a space since the water must not be in contact with the soil. The natural evaporation of water creates a certain humidity in the soil itself, while the plants tend to develop root systems that gradually tend to immerse themselves in the lower container and therefore in the water. The limits of this system are essentially two: the water tends to evaporate so it must be added directly to the lower container with a certain frequency; the subsistence of plants is reached only when they have developed the necessary root system to reach the underlying water. The second system consists in exploiting the microcapillarity of a tube or a cord to raise the water contained in a tank, separated from the pot containing the soil, up to the soil itself. This second system has an advantage over the first, and it is that it provides the right degree of moisture to the soil as the latter dries up. However, even this system has limitations: the water in the container tends to evaporate and therefore must be added with a certain frequency; the soil is humidified unevenly only in the point where the tube or the string that allow the passage of water is immersed.
The purpose of the present invention is to obviate the drawbacks of the systems in use today, creating the optimal and most natural conditions for soil humidification. In fact, it aims to recreate the conditions of perfect manual watering: favor the drying of the surface layer of the soil, in order to ensure continuous oxygenation, and let only the deepest layers moisten naturally.
The attached drawing represents the vase in section and suggests an example of its execution.
The vessel itself, as shown in the sectional drawing A, consists of two walls, one external 1 and one internal 2; in practice it is as if the vase were made up of two concentric vases, one inside the other. Water or other nourishing and fertilizing liquid 4 is introduced into the interspace 6, which is thus formed, through the inlet 3, closed by a hermetically sealed cap 13. In the innermost part of the vessel is place the cultivation soil 10, which is separated from the bottom 11 of the pot itself by suitable drainage material 9 such as expanded clay or other, in which the plant is planted.
The bottom of the internal wall 11 is provided with small through holes or with a microporous insert 7 which can rise through a hollow support 8, with different shapes and proportions, inside the soil. These measures are used to allow the passage of air and water between the interspace 6 and the innermost part of the pot where the soil 10 is contained.
The vase can be built in any suitable material that allows it to be modeled with concentric walls, such as thermoformable plastic materials.
The closing cap 13 of the filling mouth 3 can be equipped with devices for detecting the lack of water, such as for example a transparent capsule perforated towards the inside of the vessel and containing hygroscopic resin granules which change color as the humidity level changes.
The interspace 6 towards the top of the vessel is watertight. An air chamber 14 is created above the level of the water introduced into it. The water cannot flow through the holes in the bottom 11 towards the soil 10 since a depression is created in the air chamber 14 which prevents its passage. , based on the principle of communicating vessels and thanks to the thrust of atmospheric pressure.
Only when a volume of air equal to that of the water that flows through the holes in the bottom will be able to penetrate into the air chamber 14, will the water, or other nutrient and fertilizer liquid, be able to soak the lower layers of the soil. 10. In fact, this can only happen when the soil is sufficiently dry to allow the passage of air through it, air which, passing through the perforated bottom 11 of the pot, will rise up to the air chamber 14.
In this way, an alternation of periods with dry soil and moist soil is created that follows, in a spontaneous and automatic way, the traditional and more correct watering system. Furthermore, the surface layer of the soil will normally be dry, so as to allow adequate ventilation of the root system.
A variant provides, as shown in the sectional drawing B, a duct 14 formed by a small tube or other connection duct with a hollow section, connected to a terminal part in resin or other microporous material 7 permeable to air, which puts in direct communication the air chamber 14 with a well-defined area of the soil. When the part of the soil where the terminal 7 is immersed dries up, the air through the tube 5 will flow into the air chamber 14 allowing the water to flow through the holes in the bottom 11 and soak the soil.
This arrangement allows, in addition to a more prompt delivery of water in the areas of the root system of the plants, also to adapt the operation of the pot to specific cases of plants with particular cultivation needs, by arranging the microporous terminal 7 in the most appropriate position.
The pot object of the present invention can also be usefully used outdoors, in fact, since the evaporation of the water is strongly limited by the buffering effect of the overlying soil, the additions of water can equally be limited in time, as in use. inside the houses. All the materials and components illustrated are available or easily constructed in the current state of the art.
