Descrizione dell’invenzione avente per titolo: Description of the invention entitled:
“GABBIA PER GALLINE OVAIOLE” "CAGE FOR SAYING HENS"
DESCRIZIONE DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to a cage for laying hens particularly adapted to be used in the domestic and family environment such as courtyards, gardens as well as terraces and balconies.
Many methods are currently in use for raising chickens and in particular laying hens.
One of the most common methods, especially in rural homes, involves the use of sheet metal and / or masonry rooms inside which the poultry is kept on the ground, allowing the eggs to be deposited in special nests. Normally the land of these chicken coops is sprinkled with sawdust shavings (permanent litter) which are used to absorb the water contained in the feces, thus blocking the putrefaction and fermentation of the same and also avoiding the unpleasant odors that would inevitably develop from the excrement. The chickens, therefore with their free-range, cause the pulverization of the excrements thus dried by the sawdust.
This system has drawbacks. In fact, in order not to generate excrement fermentation processes, very large rooms, a high layer of shavings and a low number of hens are required; in the event of overcrowding of the chicken coop, in fact it would be necessary to remove and replace the sawdust shavings with a certain frequency.
Another known method, mainly used in industrial poultry farms, consists in the breeding of poultry in metal cages, also consisting of several shelves. In these cages, by means of metal nets, a cell is created for each hen which guarantees a minimum living space. Each cell is equipped with a feeding trough, drinking trough and an inclined metal mesh bottom to facilitate the escape of the eggs and to allow the droppings to fall to the ground or onto special conveyor belts that facilitate their collection.
This system also has the same drawbacks as the first aforementioned system. In fact, there is the formation of bad smells and the accumulation of insects attracted by excrement. Furthermore, the poultry forced into cells does not have the possibility to carry out their natural instincts.
The object of the present invention is to eliminate these drawbacks by providing a cage for laying hens that is not bulky and suitable for use in a domestic environment.
Another purpose of the invention is to provide such a cage that avoids the decomposition of chicken droppings with the consequent formation of bad smells and gives the possibility of recycling such droppings.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide such a cage capable of optimizing the life of the animal, in such a way as to have an increase in egg laying both in quantitative and qualitative terms.
Questi scopi vengono raggiunti in accordo all' invenzione, con le caratteristiche elencate nell’annessa rivendicazione indipendente 1 . These purposes are achieved in accordance with the invention, with the characteristics listed in the attached independent claim 1.
Realizzazioni preferite dell’invenzione appaiono dalle rivendicazioni dipendenti. Preferred embodiments of the invention appear from the dependent claims.
The cage for laying hens according to the invention comprises a cabinet, preferably equipped with transparent doors, divided into several overlapping communicating floors. In this way, although the cage occupies a small space, the hens have a wide range of movement.
A permanent litter filled with sawdust shavings is formed in the lower level of the cage according to the invention. These shavings are continuously moved by rotating blades in order to keep the sawdust always dry and thus avoid bad smells due to the evaporation of excrement.
There are also thermoregulatory devices to keep the temperature inside the cage constant in order to create a suitable habitat for the production of eggs for the hens.
Ulteriori caratteristiche dell’invenzione risulteranno più chiare dalla descrizione dettagliata che segue, riferita a una sua forma puramente esemplificativa, e quindi non limitativa di realizzazione illustrata nei disegni annessi in cui: Further features of the invention will become clearer from the detailed description that follows, referring to a purely exemplary and therefore non-limiting embodiment illustrated in the attached drawings in which:

Figure 7 is an enlarged sectional view of the angle enclosed in the circle indicated by A in Figure 6.
With the aid of the figures, the cage for laying hens according to the invention is described.
A cage, indicated as a whole with the reference number 100, has a substantially parallelepiped cabinet shape resting on rollers 25. The rollers 25 are preferably made of nylon mounted on ball bearings in such a way as to allow easy orientation and movement of the cage.
As shown in Figures 6 and 7, the perimeter frame of the cage 100 is made up of metal pipes 101. To avoid thermal dispersions, the side walls and the rear wall of the cage 100 are formed by insulating material 28, such as for example glass wool, enclosed between two metal sheets 102.
The front of the cage 100 is equipped with transparent doors or windows l, to let the light through, and to allow you to observe what happens inside the hen house. Each transparent door 1 is formed by a double glass 29 inside which an air gap is left. Instead of glass 29, any other transparent material such as plexiglas can be used.
Behind the windows 1, on a suitable frame, easily removable plastic nets 26 are mounted. The nets 26 are used to prevent birds, such as pigeons and sparrows, attracted by the feed, from entering the cage causing possible infection of the chickens.
The cage 100 is covered by a roof 2 intended to protect the hens from bad weather or excessive exposure to the sun, if the cage is used outdoors. The roof 2 is preferably made of prepainted sheet metal and has a certain inclination to allow easy sliding of rainwater or snow.
With reference to figure 1, the cage 100 comprises three superimposed shelves, starting from the bottom indicated with 3, 3 'and 3 ", so that the space occupied by the cage is minimal and the hens can exploit a large space especially in height . The shelves 3, 3 ', 3 "are preferably made of metal mesh.
The ground floor comprises a rectangular tank 7 substantially of the same size as the cage 100. The lower surface of the tank 7 is connected to wheels 8 which rest on the bottom of the cage 100 and are designed to allow easy extraction of the tank 7. The shelf 3 is contained in the tank 7. Between the shelf 3 and the bottom of the tank 7 there is obtained a permanent litter 4 filled with sawdust shavings or other absorbent material. In order to keep the sawdust of the litter 4 always dry, rotating blades 5 are installed between the bottom of the tank 7 and the shelf 3, in the example two. These rotating blades 5 are operated by a motor-reducer 9 always placed on the bottom of the tank 7. The motor-reducer 9 is interfaced with a timer 10 (figure 2), adjustable by an operator, in such a way as to be able to select a predetermined time during which the blades 5 are moved. The purpose of the blades 5 is not only to make the sawdust dry, but also to prevent the layers from depositing their eggs on the litter 4.
An inclined plane or ramp 21 in sheet metal or metal mesh connects shelf 3 to shelf 3 '. In this way the hens, climbing on the ramp 2 and passing through a hole 106 (figure 5), obtained in the shelf 3 ', can access the intermediate floor.
In the left end of the shelf 3 ', through an inclined plane 11, a nest-shaped space is created to be used for laying eggs. The nest 11 is specially placed in a secluded and poorly lit area of the cage 100, to create a desirable natural situation for the layers that have to lay their eggs. The inclined plane 11 also has the function of allowing the eggs to be rolled to be picked up by the user.
On the shelf 3 'there are 12 pans for the hens' feed. More than 12 trays can be used for different types of feed, such as grains, vegetables and kitchen waste and sand necessary for the formation of the egg shell. Also on the intermediate shelf 3 'is placed a basin 13 suitable to contain water and therefore to be used as a drinking trough for the hens.
A second inclined plane or ramp 21 connects the shelf 3 'with the shelf 3 "which defines a third level or upper floor. Going up the ramp 2 1 'through a slot 107 (figure 4) obtained in shelf 3 ", the hens can access the upper floor.
On the 3 ”shelf an area is created to allow the laying hens to rest. In fact, it is known that hens are instinctively led to fall asleep in the highest possible place at their disposal, again on the shelf 3 "an additional feeder 16 is placed, possibly filled with feed of a different type than those used in the other feeders 12.
In the left part (figure 1) of the upper floor a compartment 14 is created which is not accessible to the hens. Inside the compartment 14 there are containers 17 for the feed of the layers and a water storage tank 18.
The tank 18 is connected to a pipe 105 which allows the water to escape. Through a hole 106, made in the floor of the compartment 14, the tube 105 is brought to the second level of the cage 100. A water dispensing nozzle 19 is applied to the end of the tube 105, which ends up in a container 20 connected to the drinker 13 of the hens. In this way the hens always have clean water available which they drink drop by drop by pushing a clothespin that doses it without wasting it. The container 20 is specially filled with sand and also serves to retain any excess water drops drunk and spat out by the chickens. In fact, if these excess drops ended up in the litter 4, they would cause the fermentation and putrefaction of the sawdust, nullifying the value of the litter 4.
As can be seen in Figure 2, in the front part of the cage 100 above the doors 1 there is a slot 22. The opening and closing of the slot 22 is self-regulated by means of a thermostat 108. This thermostat 108 is located inside the cage 100 and, when it detects a temperature higher than a threshold, preselected by the user, it activates the opening of the slot 22 to allow the cage 100 to be closed. When the windows 1 of the cage 100 are closed, the thermostat 108 functions as a safety aerator.
A thermoregulator 23 connected to thermostat 108 is placed inside the cage 100 (figure 5). When the temperature detected by the thermostat inside the cage falls below a value preset by the user, for example 15 ° C, the thermoregulator 23 intervenes by introducing hot air into the cage. When the temperature detected by the thermostat inside the cage rises above a value set by the user, for example 20 ° C, the thermoregulator 23 intervenes by introducing cold air into the cage. 11 thermoregulator 23, therefore it functions as an air conditioning system keeping the temperature in the cage 100 substantially constant.
As can be seen in Figure 3, under the canopy 2, in front of the front part of the cage 100, there is a light bulb 24. Thanks to the transparency of the windows 1, the light bulb 24 is able to illuminate the inside of the cage 100. The light bulb 24 is connected to a timer that controls the switching on and off of the bulb 24. For example, the bulb 24 can be switched on during the night between 22-22.15 and between 4-4.15 in order to wake up the layers and force them to feed. In fact, the more an egg feeds, the more it deposits eggs.
The cage 100 as described is particularly suitable for containing around 8-10 hens, ideal for a family of five. It is clear that dimensional changes can be made, without departing from the purpose and characteristics of the invention, defined in the scope of the claims.
