Description
PROCEDIMENTO ORAFO E RELATIVO PRODOTTO GOLDSMITH PROCESS AND RELATED PRODUCT
DESCRIZIONE DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to the goldsmith and / or costume jewelery sector and more precisely has as its object a process for forming a â € œball-shapedâ € chain used in goldsmiths for the production of bracelets, necklaces, etc.
In fact, chains of the â € œballsâ € type are known, ie comprising a linear concatenation formed by a plurality of alternating female elements and male elements, in which the male elements have enlarged ends that engage smoothly in two adjacent female elements. In particular, the female elements are hollow bodies generally of a globular, oval, spherical or cylindrical shape, while the male elements can be in the form of small pins with enlarged ends (with increased diameter, in the case that the pin has a substantially cylindrical section), which, engaging within two adjacent female elements, connect them stably, allowing a limited relative sliding substantially equal to the length of said pins.
This type of chain is traditionally made as will be described below and represented in figures 1a to 1c. A metal tube 1 (for example, but not limitedly, of precious metal, commonly used in jewelery, such as gold, silver, etc.) passes through a beating machine (not shown in the figures) which, by squeezing the tube between two molds, allows to obtain the shaping of the pin male element 2 with the two enlarged ends 2a. Figure 1a shows how the tube passes through various beating stages, each of which corresponds to a subsequent crushing and advancement in the formation of the pin; in particular, the finished pin 2 is the terminal one, that is the one shown in the figure as first from the right. On the contrary, the opposite end (ie the first from the left in the figure) shows the tube not yet machined, therefore with the diameter and shape prior to machining. The intermediate sections represent the subsequent phases (proceeding from left to right, in the figure) of forming the pin and are indicated with 2 <n>, 2 <n-1> â € ¦, 2. A similar numbering will be shown below used for the figures relating to the subsequent phases of the described goldsmith process.
Following processing, the male elements 2 therefore remain connected to each other by means of a thin septum 3 of material, not separated during the beating phase. The concatenation of pins 2 thus obtained is inserted inside a second metal tube 4 (of material commonly used in jewelery, such as gold, silver, etc.) to form a basic structure 5 (consisting of the sum of the first and second tube ) from which the ball chain will be obtained. The base structure 5, similarly to what has been previously described, passes through the beating machine so that the second tube 4 can be worked to form the female elements 6 (in the example shown in the figure of substantially spherical shape). As shown in Figure 1b, the female elements are formed in such a way that each incorporates a joint 3 between two adjacent pins.
Finally, the chain is terminated by separating the pins and the female elements, or by breaking the connecting partitions that kept them tied to the corresponding adjacent elements.
This manufacturing process has numerous drawbacks; first of all, being formed by a single tube, the pins necessarily all have the same shape and surface finish and, moreover, they are made of the same material. Furthermore, their length, (which corresponds to the pitch of the female elements in the ball chain), is linked to the pitch of the beating machine, so it cannot be changed.
From what has been previously described, it is clear that the procedure currently used is not sufficiently flexible and therefore poorly suited to the needs of the goldsmith industry, which is increasingly oriented towards creating products with a high artistic and creative content, as well as characterized with a marked originality and uniqueness.
An alternative solution, aimed at being able to reduce the pitch between the female elements, is to increase the portion of the pin affected by the enlarged diameter, thus reducing the length of the portion between the two enlarged ends, which is the visible one. between two adjacent female elements; however this solution involves numerous drawbacks, as it requires the use of precious material (ie the material in which the pins are made) which in any case is largely not visible, but remains incorporated inside the female element. This solution therefore appears extremely disadvantageous, both from an economic and an aesthetic point of view.
Therefore, the present invention proposes to provide a process which allows to realize â € œball-typeâ € chains having characteristics of uniqueness and particularity.
These and other objects are achieved by the goldsmith process and by the chain thus obtained according to the present invention, the essential characteristics of which are defined respectively in the first and tenth of the appended claims.
The characteristics and advantages of the method for forming bead-type chains according to the invention will become clearer from the following description of an embodiment thereof, given by way of non-limiting example, with reference to the attached drawings in which:
- le figure da 1a a 1c rappresentano fasi successive del procedimento tradizionale, secondo tecnica nota; in particolare la figura 1c rappresenta la catena a palline finita ed ottenuta con il procedimento tradizionale; e Figures 1a to 1c show successive stages of the traditional process, according to the known technique; in particular figure 1c represents the finished bead chain obtained with the traditional process; And
- Figures 2a to 2c represent successive phases of the process according to the invention; similarly, figure 2c represents the chain with balls obtained by the process according to the invention.
With reference to figures 2a to 2c, a goldsmith process according to the invention comprises a first step of forming male elements or pins 21. The pins 21 are obtained from a first tube (not shown) of jewelery material which is initially sectioned into sections equal to the length of the individual pins to be obtained; subsequently each section is worked in a beating machine to obtain the finished pin. In the process according to the invention, the shape (not shown) that acts on the pipe sections is constituted by two cones arranged specularly opposite; the finished pins 21 have, as shown in figure 2a, a flattened central portion and enlarged ends 21a, that is, with an increased diameter. The pins 21 thus obtained are then inserted into a steel bar 7 having a diameter equal to the internal diameter of the flattened central portion of the single pin, as shown in figure 2a.
According to the invention, on the bar 7, between the pins 21, spacer elements 30 are arranged so as to form an alternating sequence of pins 21 and spacer elements 30. In particular, a stop element, such as, for example, but not as a limitation, an end spacer 30â € ™ (figure 2a) is fixed on the bar 7 so as to block the sliding of the inserted elements on the bar itself.
The spacers 30 are made of metal (such as for example aluminum, copper, iron, etc.) or other suitable material (for example wax), as will be described in detail below, to be dissolved in a specific chemical bath or through a physical process.
This assembly 70, or the bar 7 which carries the sequence of pins and spacers, is inserted into a second tube 40 of goldsmith material. The base structure 50 obtained from this second tube 40 with the assembly 70 inserted inside, is then made to pass through the beating machine to realize female elements 60 similarly to the prior art (figure 2b); each female element 60 incorporates inside a spacer 30 (and, obviously, the two ends 21a of two pins 21 following the spacer and adjacent to it). Once the female elements 60 have been obtained, in order to eliminate the spacers 30, the unfinished chain thus obtained is immersed, according to the example described, in a chemical bath made in such a way as to be able to dissolve the spacers 30; for example, if the spacers are made of aluminum, the chemical bath must be based on soda.
Once the spacers have been loosened and the bar 7 has been removed, the finished chain is obtained, as shown in figure 2c.
To complete the procedure, a phase of cutting the chain to size can be envisaged, in order to obtain sections suitable for being transformed into bracelets or necklaces; finally there is the fixing of hooks (such as an eyelet and the relative carabiner or similar) for the closure of the jewel obtained.
The advantages of the goldsmith process and of the bead-type chain thus obtained are evident from what has been previously described; first of all, the pins are pre-formed and already divided between them, therefore they have geometric characteristics that cannot be obtained with the traditional method; being in fact separated from each other, they can be made individually, in different materials and surface finishes. To make the same jewel, pins of different materials can therefore be used (for example the same ball chain can be made with pins in gold and silver, gold with different chromatic characteristics, etc.).
A further advantage of the goldsmith process described is linked to the possibility of varying the pitch of the chain, that is the distance between two successive female elements. In the traditional procedure, this distance is determined by the beating machine, i.e. the pitch of the chain corresponds to the advancement pitch of the beating machine. In the method according to the invention, on the other hand, the pitch of the beating machine during the production of the female elements is given by the sum of the length of the pin and an adjacent spacer, i.e. the overall length indicated in figure 2b with the letter P. This solution makes it possible to produce pins of variable length (even with a length shorter than the pitch), thus creating chains in which the female elements are particularly close (ie at a distance lower than the advancement pitch of the beating machine).
In addition to the advantages described above, considering that the beating is carried out with a less aggressive mold, i.e. which exerts a lower force on the metal tube, a lower thickness of the tube from which the pins are obtained is required, with a considerable saving of material (which commonly consists of precious metals such as gold and silver).
Pins and female elements can, for example, be made of silver; in this case, the spacers will preferably be made of aluminum in order to be dissolved in a soda-based chemical bath or in any chemical bath that allows the aluminum to be dissolved but does not affect the silver.
However, as previously mentioned, the spacers can be made of any chemically or physically soluble material (such as, for example, but not limited to, aluminum, copper, wax, etc.) so that they can be dissolved in a special chemical bath or through a physical process (for example, if the spacers are made of wax, they can be dissolved simply through appropriate heating).
The stop element, as well as a spacer 30 'as described, can also be made up of a ring, a stop or any other blocking device made of a soluble material like the spacers.
Finally, female elements of different shapes (spherical, oval) with respect to that described in the present example can be used.
The present invention has been described heretofore with reference to its preferred embodiments. It is to be understood that other embodiments may exist which pertain to the same inventive nucleus, all falling within the scope of the protection of the claims set forth below.
