Description

Anti-firing fibers, yarns and fabrics, their preparation and use for the production of anti-flame, anti-heat and insulating products.

Campo dell'invenzione Field of the invention

The present invention refers to fibers, yarns and fabrics that simultaneously have high flame retardant, heat resistant and insulating characteristics, to the processes for their production and to their use for the production of anti-flame, anti-heat and insulating products. .

Stato dell’arte State of the art

As is known in various activities, in particular those related to safety, it is essential to have artifacts that have fireproof properties and allow any user to operate in extremely high temperature conditions and in the presence of flames (think for example of interventions for extinguishing fires).

Eliminating the fabrics containing asbestos fibers, for the well-known reasons of toxicity of this material, metal-aramid fibers have been proposed for the preparation of fabrics suitable for the aforementioned purposes, such as NOMEX® (which give the fabric the fireproof property desired) and aramid and / or para-aramidic, for example KEVLAR® (which confer the shear strength).

The fabrics prepared with the aforementioned fibers, although with various advantages, however, also have various drawbacks that make their use uncomfortable, in particular the products made with these fabrics have a considerable permeability to heat (and therefore even if they are fireproof they do not allow operator prolonged exposure to the heat source) and, in contact with the flame, they tend to carbonize easily and therefore crumble. Furthermore, said materials present processing problems when they have to be packaged (as is required for example for the production of fireproof clothing).

It is therefore evident the need to develop new materials that make it possible to overcome the aforementioned disadvantages.

Sommario dell’invenzione Summary of the invention

The invention refers to yarns and fabrics consisting of pre-oxidized acrylic fibers, possibly in combination with aramid, metal-aramid and para-aramid fibers in appropriate percentages.

Descrizione dettagliata dell’invenzione Detailed description of the invention

The present invention allows to overcome the problems indicated above thanks to yarns and fabrics containing the fibers as defined above.

According to the invention, pre-oxidized acrylic fibers are understood to mean the fibers of this name normally used in the textile field such as those produced by Ashai Chemicals (see for example LASTAN®).

Also the aramidic, metal-aramidic and para-aramidic fibers defined according to the invention are those already commonly used in the textile field (see for example those produced by DuPont) for the preparation of fireproof fabrics (see for example the aforementioned NOMEX® and KEVLAR®). The fabrics according to the invention can consist entirely of pre-oxidized fibers or have a content of pre-oxidized acrylic fibers between 50 - 90% (by weight calculated on the total) and a content of aramid or metal-aramid or para-aramid fibers ( or their mixtures) comprised between 50 - 10% (by weight calculated on the total). In the case of fabrics composed of more than one type of fibers as defined above, fabrics containing 70% of pre-oxidized acrylic fibers and 30% of aramid or metal-aramid or para-aramid fibers (or their mixtures) are particularly preferred. Compared to those consisting of pre-oxidized fibers as described above, these fabrics are more easily workable, for example when it is necessary to make fireproof clothing (and at the same time capable of resisting flames and having insulating properties) and also have a particular mechanical resistance to tears and cuts. (for example when using the KEVLAR®).

The yarns and fabrics according to the invention can be prepared, for example, according to the process described below and also the subject of this application.

In the process according to the invention, the staple fibers are treated, at room temperature, with antistatic oils and / or paraffins diluted in water by immersion or rubbing (in the case of solid oils or paraffins) for the time sufficient to allow their total absorption

Preferably the dilution is comprised between 2 and 30% (calculated by weight on the total weight of the solution).

The antistatic oils according to the invention are the oils, liquid or solid, commonly used in the textile field to eliminate the electrostatic charges from the fibers, as well as the paraffins, solid or liquid, are those commonly used in the textile field, these products, as is known, they are such that they can be eliminated during the washing steps with water and / or solvents to which the fabrics are subjected in the final part of industrial processing.

The fibers thus treated are then spun, obtaining both single-ply and twisted yarns having a metric number (i.e. meters, expressed in thousands, per 1 Kg) between 10 and 60.

Alternatively to the process described above, the treatment with antistatic oils and / or aqueous paraffin solutions can be carried out directly on the yarn instead of the staple fibers, obtaining similar results.

I filati vengono asciugati per riscaldamento su cilindri caldi (calandratura). The yarns are dried by heating on hot cylinders (calendering).

The yarns thus obtained can then be used for the production, according to the normal weaving techniques of fabrics from silk to satin in which the yarn can be loaded both in the weft and in the warp.

Traditional shuttle looms or both circular and rectilinear knitting machines can be used for weaving, preferably by adopting the appropriate measures for the elimination of dust and fiber residues that are produced during weaving.

The fabrics thus obtained are then subjected to the usual washing with water and / or solvents to eliminate the antistatic oils or paraffins used during the first phase of the process.

Given the softness and versatility of the fabric obtained with the fibers treated as described above, the fabrics according to the invention find a very wide use, for example for the manufacture of protective clothing for civil protection interventions, for military, industrial, sports use, etc. they can also be used in the production of structures useful for the protection of materials or systems from fire attack or fireproof textile coverings and accessories for furnishing public premises such as cinemas, theaters, discos, seats, etc.).

In particular, fabrics made up of pre-oxidised fibers only have an exceptional thermal resistance which makes them particularly suitable for the production of insulated elements (for example panels for fire doors, guards for protecting motors or parts of machines, insulating elements for boots and the like etc.). Among these fabrics, those of the felt type are particularly preferred.

Eventually the fabric according to the invention can be coupled, glued, coated and quilted with any other type of fabric to give the dress the desired characteristics.
