Description
“LEGA DEL RAME PARTICOLARMENTE PER GETTI â € œ COPPER ALLOY PARTICULARLY FOR CASTINGS
ARTISTICI, ARCHITETTONICI ED ORNAMENTALI†ARTISTIC, ARCHITECTURAL AND ORNAMENTAL⠀
The present invention relates in general to the metallurgical sector of copper alloys, such as brass and bronze, and in particular relates to an alloy formulated in particular, although not exclusively, as a starting material for processing in the artistic, architectural and ornamental fields.
For use in castings, or castings, of sculptures and / or artistic, architectural and ornamental objects, brass and bronze alloys are commonly used which have their own basic colors depending on their normal composition. However, when a golden yellow color is to be attributed to the resulting sculptures or objects, it is necessary to resort to surface treatments with additional processes but with various problems at least of resistance to oxidation, to maintain their characteristics unaltered over time, as well as finishing and retouching where it becomes necessary to mask surface imperfections. Furthermore, to allow at least their machinability with chip removal, these alloys normally contain lead, an element for which there is a tendency to eliminate it as it is toxic and harmful to health and the working environment.
The objective of the present invention is instead to propose and supply an innovative copper alloy, substantially lead-free and particularly suitable as a starting material for processing / casting in the artistic-architectural ornamental sector where a long-lasting golden yellow color is required. advantageously without having to resort to additional processes and with the possibility of various surface finishes.
This objective is achieved according to the invention with a metallurgical alloy that the applicant identifies with the denomination â € œGold MSC A6â € and whose composition is the following:
Quantità (peso %) Di preferenza Componenti Quantity (weight%) Preferably Components
da a (peso %) Rame 89,6 91,4 90,5 Alluminio 6 7 6,5 Zinco 1,8 2,2 2 Stagno 0,8 1,2 1 Ferro - 0,10 -Manganese 0,05 -Nichel 0,05 -Bismuto - 0,05 -Silicio - 0,05 -Fosforo - 0,05 -Antimonio - 0,05 -Piombo - 0,03 - from to (weight%) Copper 89.6 91.4 90.5 Aluminum 6 7 6.5 Zinc 1.8 2.2 2 Tin 0.8 1.2 1 Iron - 0.10 - Manganese 0.05 - Nickel 0.05 - Bismuth - 0.05 - Silicon - 0.05 - Phosphorus - 0.05 - Antimony - 0.05 - Lead - 0.03 -
e dove la somma delle impurità , escluso il ferro, non deve superare 0, 25%. and where the sum of the impurities, iron excluded, must not exceed 0, 25%.
The copper alloy thus formulated has a volumetric mass of 7.80 Kg / dm <3> and can be supplied in blocks weighing about 13-14 Kg or in sub-formats on request. It has a golden yellow color, which is maintained over time, with a much warmer shade than traditional brass, as well as excellent resistance to oxidation and atmospheric agents. The aluminum present in the alloy forms a veil of oxide on the molten bath, protecting it from external agents such as oxygen and hydrogen.
Advantageously, the surface of the casting can also be mirror polished, satin or opaque according to need. It can also be chemically treated to obtain customized colors and shades, even with different treatments from one side to the other, although it is advisable to respect the color deliberately attributed to the alloy. If the sculpture or object produced, once finished, needs retouching to mask any imperfections, the required interventions can be carried out easily and successfully as the same alloy is based. However, it will always be easy to restore the original color by means of appropriate substances.
The alloy has a melting point of 1120-1150 ° C, with the possibility of raising it up to 1200 ° C in the case of particularly complicated castings, without however damaging the chemical-physical structure of the alloy itself. Crucible or electric induction furnaces with low mixing are recommended for melting. The castings can be made in sand, lost wax, shell or investment casting.
The castability and fluidity of the alloy are optimal thanks to the absence of volatile elements and consequent elimination of both encrustations on the molds and annoying white fumes during casting for the benefit of a healthier work environment.
Pure l’assenza di elementi tossici e nocivi come piombo, cadmio, berillio, ecc., contribuisce a migliorare l’ambiente. The absence of toxic and harmful elements such as lead, cadmium, beryllium, etc., also contributes to improving the environment.
Furthermore, the alloy has good machinability on the tool and excellent TIG (arc-spark) weldability with commercial filler materials (Cu 92 Al 8 alloy) of the same color tone as the alloy according to the invention.
