Abstract

1418251 Packaging machines F P GENSANA 9 Jan 1974 [26 Jan 1973] 01131/74 Heading B8C In a machine for forming containers from a web 29 of heat-sealable material using a shaping tube 35, dispensing a substance into the containers through the tube and then sealing the containers, the web-feeding, web-welding, and web cutting means and their operating devices form a unit which is detachably secured to the machine in co-operation with tube 35. Belts 26 carry web 29 along tube 35 and are intermittently driven on pulley shafts 25 by a chain drive 22 passing over sprockets 21, 23, 24. Sprocket 21 is intermittently driven through a one-way clutch coupling 20 by a pinion 19 engaging a gear-sector 18 reciprocated by crank-arm 14 on the driven cam-shaft 6. Vertical welded seams are made on the web by die 71 actuated by cam 9 on shaft 6, while cams 7, 8 actuate transverse welding dies 42, 45. A knife (not shown) actuated by movement of the inner die 45 severs the sealed and filled container. Lateral folds or bellows are formed in the containers by levers moving on each side of bars 41 carrying dies 42. A secondary cam-shaft 57 driven from shaft 6 has cams 58 which actuate microswitches 59 to control synchronization of the various movements. The entire mechanism comprising the detechable unit is mounted between side walls 73, and may be manually disengaged from the web by a lever 52 which shifts belt 26 from the web on tube 35. Web 29 is automatically centred in the machine by a photo-cell sensing marks on the web. The machine may be adjusted to receive different sizes of web 29.
