E' un tubero, che una volta schiacciato e polverizzato si presenta come una spezia di colore arancione. La droga è costituita dal rizoma cilindrico e ramificato, raccolto dopo che la parte aerea si è disseccata. Questo viene privato dalle radici, cotto nell'acqua e posto in appositi essiccatoi.
