Un catalizzatore di deidrogenazione ossidativa è definibile con la formula:Moap1XbYcZdQeOf (I)dove: X rappresenta un elemento scelto tra sodio, potassio, rubidio, cesio, calcio e bario, oppure è ammonio; Y rappresenta antimonio, oppure una combinazione di antimonio e tungsteno; Z rappresenta un elemento scelto tra ferro, cobalto, nichel, vanadio, niobio, stagno, zirconio o zinco, oppure uno di questi elementi in combinazione con cromo e/o rame; Q rappresenta un elemento delle terre rare; a è un numero da 6 a 12; b è un numero da 0,1 a 6; c è un numero da 0,1 a 6; d è un numero da 0,01 a 3; e è un numero da 0,01 a 5; e f è un numero atto a soddisfare le esigenze di valenza degli altri elementi.Viene descritto un procedimento per la produzione di etilene mediante deidrogenazione ossidativa di etano che impiega il catalizzatore (I).
