Abstract

Superfici di materiali contenenti silice, quali le pareti interne di capillari di silice, impiegati nelle separazioni cromatografiche, particolarmente per elettroforesi, sono rivestite con uno strato polimerico organico per ridurre oppure eliminare le cariche superficiali. Lo strato viene applicato convertendo dapprima i gruppi silanolici sulla superficie a gruppi di alogenuro di silicio, quindi facendo reagire questi gruppi con un reagente organometallico avente una parte terminale etenilica, preferibilmente vinil-litio oppure allil-litio oppure un alogenuro di vinil-magnesio oppure allil magnesio, per convertire i gruppi di alogenuro di silicio a gruppi Si-R in cui gli R trattengono la parte terminale etenilica ed infine facendo reagire questi gruppi etenilici nuovamente attaccati alla superficie con un monomero organico neutro in una reazione di polimerizzazione per addizione allo scopo di formare sulla superficie uno strato polimerico monomolecolare reticolato non trasversalmente. Lo strato polimerico risultante è reticolato direttamente alla silice attraverso un legame Si-C che è stabile su un ampio intervallo di condizioni di pH.
