Abstract

Drum- or carousel-type roofing tile press 1 in which the compression head 27 has a fast mechanical approach and a slow hydraulically-operated 35 pressure stroke. The fast mechanical approach and withdrawal is provided by two types of cams 9 and 7 formed on a shaft 3 which passes through the press; the lifting cam 7 being positioned centrally on the shaft 3, between the compression cams 9 which are positioned at the ends. The said cam 7, 9 shaft 3 has rotary motion; the cams 7, 9 are in contact with the mobile part 11 of the press; the lifting cam 7 pressing against the upper end 13 of the said mobile part 11 and the compression cams 9 pressing against the lower end 27 of this part 11. The compression 9 and lifting 7 cams bring about an initial phase of fast approach and withdrawal, respectively, of the said mobile part 27 of the press (to which the moulds are attached) with respect to the (fixed) moulding area; and a fluid-pressure system, consisting of one or two hydraulic cylinders 35, located in the lower part 27 of the mobile part 11 of the press, causes the mould holding plates 37 to execute a limited stroke with respect to the said mobile part 27, which is now stationary, thus bringing about the actual moulding compression; while a hydraulic system controlled by servo valves regulates the flow rate through the said fluid- pressure system in such a way as to obtain the desired compression curve, which is similar to that of mechanical presses. The plates mounted on the cylinders 35 to carry the upper moulds are guided by at least two guide bars 39 which run in respective guides 41 with lubricated bushes.
