Abstract

Plastic hardener based on hydrateable gripping material such as clay, synthetic fibres as for example ceramic fibres, consisting of insulating fibres at high temperature based on silicate of alumina, kaolin and zirconium oxide and similar and water soluble organic binders of the water soluble ethers of cellulose type, such as hydroxylpropyl-methyl-cellulose (HPMC). A typical composition contains in parts and weight:No. 1 Water from 800 to 1300 partsNo. 2 (HPMC)from 10 to 70 partsNo. 3 Ceramic fibres from 200 to 600 partsNo. 4 Clay from 150 to 300 partsNo. 5 Calcined alumina from 200 to 600 partsNo. 6 Ammonia from 10 to 50 partsNo. 7 Anti-mould from 2 to 4 partsWith the said composition a paste is obtained which can be amalgamated, can be sunk into moulds or injected and can be processed in sheets in a friction calendar, or similar. It allows light high insulation products to be obtained, which can be dried in the air or in kilns and since it is a composition which can reach very high temperatures of around 1200 degrees - 1300 degrees Celsius, it allows products to be obtained for making bricks, panels and other products for kilns. The specific weight of the said composition can vary between 0.4 and 0.5.
