Abstract

The blood reservoir is generally yolk-shaped (banana-shaped) the two ends normally pointing downwards with the inlet at one end and outlet at the opposite end and an air vent at the highest point of the centre. It pref. also contains a filter having a pore size of 100-250 micron. The ratio of the height of the reservoir chamber to that of the central zone is pref. 1.7-1.2. The reservoir is pref. of PVC, polypropylene or polyurethane. The reservoir is used, in heart-lung bypass systems, more specifically in association with childrens' infections.
