Abstract

The hydrodynamic electrical energy generating system is driven by wave power. A support is mounted at the base of an expanse of water so as to separate it into a shallow reservoir delimited by the support and an open mass of water subject to wave action and with a normal water level. A controllable static hydrodynamic pressure is thus produced between the reservoir and the open expanse of water. Pumps communicating between the open water expanse and the reservoir are operated by floats displaced by wave motion. These cause water to be transferred into the reservoir, to maintain the static hydrodynamic pressure, which in turn may be used to drive generators and produce electricity. The reservoir support may be fabricated in the form of a dyke enclosure or a circular sils, and the required number of wave-operated pumps is mounted around the structure.
