Abstract
Corona-resistant insulation for electrical conductors comprises wrapping the conductor with a polymeric material comprising a resin or thermoplastic film contg. 5-40 wt.% of an organoaluminate, organosilicate, SiO2 particles with a particle size of less than 0.1 micrometres and/or aluminium oxide particles with a particle size of less than 0.1 micrometres. Suitable base resins are e.g. epoxide resins, polyesters and ester-imide resins. The thermoplastic films are esp. of polyamide or polyimide. The additives give insulation with excellent dielectric properties and resistance to corona discharge coupled with improved physical properties compared e.g. with mica-contg. insulation. The insulated conductors are useful e.g. in high performance motors having improved operating life and resistance to insulation breakdown.
