Abstract
Pultrusion process uses a polyester resin compsn. comprising (A) 40-60 pts. of a polyester made by condensn. of a mixt. of (a) 65-85 mole % of an alpha, beta-unsatd. diacid or anhydride; (b) is approx. 15-35 mole % of a satd. diacid or anhydride; and (c) \~110 mole % of a glycol to give a polyester with an equiv. wt. of alpha, beta-unsatn. of nearly equals 200-275 and a compatibility w.r.t. the monomer of \~25%; (B) 40-60 pts. of a monomer (mixt.) which is copolymerisable with the polyester, such that (A) + (B)= 100 and the cured polyester has a Barcol hardness of \-45; and (C) 4-10 pts. of a cellulose acetobutyrate resin which is soluble in the polyester resin and which renders the mixt. opaque when it is cured. Use of the resin compsn. allows pultruded prods. to be made in the usual way but with considerably higher rates of pultrusion than with prior art resin compsns.
