Abstract
The appts. consists of a vertical decantation duct with an inlet and outlet at its top end for a liq. to be purified. In the lower part of the duct is an opaque float, which is located between a lamp and a photoelectric cell. When a heavy liq. impurity collects in the bottom of the duct, it lifts the float so a light beam impinges on the photoelectric cell. The cell then closes the top outlet and opens a bottom drain, so the heavy liq. impurity flows out of the duct. The top inlet in the duct is pref. provided with a filter inside a tube causing laminar flow of the incoming liq. The purificn. of water to remove hydrocarbons; or the purificn. of hydrocarbons such as diesel oil or kerosene used in domestic heating plant or in fuel pumps on IC engines.
