Abstract

The slurries consist of metallic fragments, abrasive particles and an oily liq. used as a cooling agent during the milling. The process consists of mechanically separating the liq. from the solids by compression between two rollers; treating the solid with a solvent to clean away any residual oil; heating the solid in a reducing atmosphere and separating the ferrous from the nonferrous particles magnetically. The process enables the vast quantities of these slurries which are produced each day in industry to be treated so that the oil can be recycled and the metal particles used in the metallurgical industry. Pollution resulting from disposal of the slurries is avoided.
