Abstract

A process for separating Fe chloride from ZnCl2 in an aq. soln. is described. The aq. soln. is subjected to liq.-liq. extraction with an organic phase contg. an organophosphorus solvent. The ZnCl2 is separated from the organic phase by eluting. Fe and Zn chlorides naturally occuring in ores can be separated. The process is of particular use for separating these chlorides from pickling solns. in the electroplating industry. Pollution is reduced and the process can be used on a small scale.
