Abstract

Gas-absorbent soln. leaving an absorption column to be regenerated in steaming columns is divided into major and minor fractions of which the major is passed to a regenerating column operating at a press. at least 0.2 to 0.5 kg/cm2 higher than that in a second column to which the minor fraction is passed. The first column receives processing heat from an external source, but the second column relies on heat extracted from regenerated soln. leaving the first column. This arrangement raises thermal efficiency so that smaller, more economical processing plants can be used for gas absorption from gas mixts., e.g. to separate CO2, H2S, HCN, SO2 and hydrocarbons.
