Abstract
An aromatic hydrocarbon (e.g. benzene) is hydrogenated in the presence of hydrogen halide (pref. hydrogen chloride) using gp. VIII noble metals (pref. ruthenium, rhodium), as catalyst. Halogenated cyclohexyls of formula (I) are produced. In the redn., the hydrogen press. ranges from 0.01-500 kg/cm2. I are widely used in the org. chemical industry (X-chlorine, bromine or iodine; R-alkyl; n-0, 1 or 2).
