Abstract

The present invention is a coated tool including a substrate and a coating layer formed on the surface of the substrate the coating layer including a first layered structure (3) and a second layered structure (4) the first layered structure being a structure in which two or more layers having different compositions are periodically layered with the average layer thickness of each of the layers being 60 to 500 nm the second layered structure being a structure in which two or more layers having different compositions are periodically layered with the average layer thickness of each of the layers being 2 to less than 60 nm and the layers constituting the first layered structure and the layers constituting the second layered structure containing at least one substance selected from the group consisting of: a metal comprising at least one metal element selected from Ti Zr Hf V Nb Ta Cr Mo W Al Si Sr Y Sn and Bi; and a compound comprising at least one of the above metal elements and at least one non metal element selected from carbon nitrogen oxygen and boron.
