Abstract

A recording medium includes a substrate having a label-side surface on one side and a recording layer for recording and reproducing information on the other side. The label-side surface of the substrate has a mirror surface portion and a rough surface portion, a step having a step height of 10 µm or less is formed between the mirror surface portion and the rough surface portion, and an average roughness of the rough surface portion is between 10 µm and 2 µm, inclusive. Visible information is formed on the label-side surface by using the mirror surface portion and the rough surface portion.
