[Object] To provide a power unit for small-size vehicles which covers many parts of a change mechanism and provides increased supporting rigidity of a kick spindle. [Solving Means] In a power unit for a small-size vehicle in which at least a portion of a change mechanism C is disposed on one side of a crankcase 11, a side cover 20 which accommodates the portion of the change mechanism C which is exposed out of the crankcase 11 is removably joined to a side wall of the crankcase 11. A kick spindle 21 is supported by the side cover 20 and the crankcase 11.
