1460304 Herbicidal compositions ELI LILLY & CO 10 Dec 1973 [11 Dec 1972] 57231/73 Heading A5E [Also in Division C2] Herbicidal compositions comprise (a) an inert carrier, (b) 0.05 to 2.0 parts of a triazinone of formula: wherein Q represents phenyl, C 3 -C 8 cycloalkyl or C 1 -C 6 alkyl and (c) 0.25 to 4.0 parts of a 2, 6-dinitroaniline of formula: wherein R<SP>1</SP> is C 2 -C 6 alkyl optionally substituted with Cl, Br, F or methoxy, C 3 -C 6 alkenyl optionally substituted with C1, cyclopropylmethyl or cyclopropy ethyl; R<SP>2</SP> is hydrogen or as defined for R<SP>1</SP>, provided that when R<SP>2</SP> is hydrogen, R<SP>1</SP> is C 3 -C 6 sec-alkyl, or R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> together with the N atom to which they are attached form a C 3 -C 8 polymethyleneimino ring; R<SP>3</SP> is halogen, C 1 -C 3 , alkoxy, cyano, C 1 -C 4 alkyl, F 1 -F 3 , fluoromethyl, C 1 -C 2 alkoxy- C 1 -C 2 alkyl, optionally substituted with Cl, C 2 -C 4 alkenyl optionally substituted with Cl, C 1 -C 2 alkylsulphonyl or -SO 2 R<SP>4</SP>. Wherein R<SP>4</SP> is amino, azido, wherein R<SP>5</SP> and R<SP>6</SP> are C 1 -C 3 , alkyl or together are a tetramethylene chain; m is 0 to 2; n is 3 to 5; R<SP>7</SP> is C 1 -C 2 alkyl; X is H, CH 3 , C 1 -C 2 alkoxy, Cl or amino optionally substituted with C 1 -C 2 alkyl. A preferred composition comprises 0.25 to 2.0 parts of 3- methylthio-4-amino-6-t-butyl-1, 2, 4-triazin-5- one and 0.5 to 2.0 parts of 2, 6-dinitro-N, N- dipropyl-α, α, α-trifluoro-p-toluidine (trifluralin). A method of inhibiting the growth of weeds in soy bean cropland comprises applying the compositions to the soil and incorporating them in the top two to six inches thereof.

Claims (2)
1. An herbicidal composition which comprises an inert carrier and as herbicidal active ingredients from 0.25 part to 2.0 parts of 3-methylthio-4-amino-6-t-butyl-l , 2 ,4-triazin-5-one and from 0.5 part to 2.0 parts of 2 , 6-dinitro-N,N-dipropyl-a , , -trifluoro-p_-toluidine .
2. Λ method of inhibiting the growth of germinating and emerging weeds in the soil of soybean cropland which comprises applying to the soil and incorporating in the top two to six inches thereof the herbicidal composition of claim 1 at a rate of from 0.75 pound per acre to 4.0 pounds per acre of the active ingredients.
