Claims (15)
1. A sound generatorf comprising a substantially hollow cylindrical rotor and a substantially hollow cylindrical stator arranged in the interior space of the rotor co-axially with and at a spacing from thB rotor, the rotor and the stator having at least one pair of communicable passage openings respectively arranged in the rotor and stator for the passage of a gasBous medium therethrough and the stator being provided with sealing means arranged to so slidingly contact the rotor as to substantially . seal the or each passage opening in the atator from the apace between the rotor and stator.
2. A sound generator as claimed in claim 1, wherein the sealing means comprises a respective sealing element associated with the or each passage opening in the stator.
3. A sound generator as claimed in claim 2, wherein the or each sealing element is provided with a passage opening in alignment with and larger in cross-section than the respectively associated passage opening in the stator.
4. A sound generator as claimed in either claim 2 or claim 3, comprising means resiliently urging the or each sealing element into sliding contact with the rotor,
5. A sound generator ae claimed in either claim 2 or claim 3, wherein the atator ie provided with channel means adjacent the or each sealing element to receive a flow of gaseous medium urging the or each sealing element into sliding contact with the rotor.
6. A sound generator as claimed in any one of claims 2 to 5, wherein the stator is provided with a respective recess receiving the or each sealing element.
7. · A sound generator as claimed in any one of claims 2 to 6, wherein the • - . . 43768/2 or each eeallng element comprises carbon.
8. A sound generator as claimed in claim 7, wherein the carbon is of the type conventionally used for electrical brushes. .'
9. A sound generator as claimed in any one of claims 2 to 6, uherein the or each sealing element comprises- a synthetic material.
10. A sound generator as claimed in claim 9, uherein the synthetic · material 1B plastics material.
11. A sound genBretor as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the rotor at least where it is in eliding contact with the sealing means comprises a material having characteristics adapted to those of the material of the sealing means.
12. A sound generator as claimed in claim 11, uherein said material of the rotor comprises copper.
13. A sound generator substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawings.
14. A sound generator modified substsntially as hereinbefore described with reference to Fig. 2 of the accompanying drawings.
