Abstract

Acne bacteria which have been attenuated by cell culture passages are cultivated under anaerobic conditions in a weakly acid medium. A composition which contains attenuated acne bacteria and metabolic products thereof is obtained. This composition can be processed to preparations for the treatment of acne vulgaris which can be administered orally and induce no additional allergization. [GB1413419A]

Claims (1)

1. WHAT IS CLAIMED IS; 1. A composition for oral administration in the treatment of acne, which composition comprises corynebacterium acnes as an immunizing constituent and a non-toxic adjuvant, the composition containing an. excess of the number of said microorganisms which would be toJerated upon injection thereof. as claimed in claim 1 2. An acne composition for oral administration,/ comprising corynebacterium acnes as an immunizing constituent and /me€a6ofic°produc¾§ of corynebacterium acnes as a desensitizing constituent. 3. A composition in accordance with Claim 1 or 2 wherein the corynebacterium acnes are inactivated corynebacterium acnes selected from the group consisting of Gerrath, Beck and Vogel strains and combinations thereof. k A composition in accordance with Claim 1 or 2 wherein the metabolic products of corynebacterium acnes are antigens contained In the nutrient medium in which said corynebacterium acnes are cultivated. 5. A composition in accordance with Claim 1 or 2 which additionally contains urea as an immuno-ad uvant · 6. A composition in accordance with Claim 1 or 2 wherein the corynebaoterium acnes are in freeze-dried form. 7· A composition in accordance with Claim 1 or 2 wherein the corynebacterium acnes are in the form of a suspension. 8. A therapeutic composition for oral administration in unit dosage form comprising at least 1 billion of corynebacterium acnes and non-toxic adjuvant material. 9. A composition as defined in Claim 8 in which the corynebacterium strain is Gerrath. 16
