CLAIMS '
1. In a visual teaching program presentation system of the type i which the movement of a movable image carrier is controlled by a separate, independently movable recording carrier, the combination comprising: irst and second bidirectional transpor means for movin said image carrier and said separate recording carrier, respectively, said first and second transport means being capable of transporting the carriers in a irst lower speed of transport and a second substantially higher speed of transport, said first speed being used during the program presentatio and said second speed being used In program searching operations which must take place prior to the program presentation; a series o individual manual response means, each of which when being actuated in respons to a question which Is presented by one of said carriers being contributory determining the further program searching and presenting operations and each of which having a signal store associated herewith; said image carrier having said teaching program recorded thereon including a plurality of frames presenting motion picture scenes as well as still pictures, each of the frames having at least one marking associated therewith designating the individual frame as being a frame within a motio picture scene or a frame of a still picture scene, said markings being scannable in the both directions of the transport of the carrier; said separate recording carrier having at least a control track having recorded thereon distinguishable control marks each o which being predetermined for one of said individual manual response means and denoting a predetermined number of transport operations to be executed by said first transport means in a program searching and in a program > first and second scanning means for scanning said markings and said control marks, respectively, during the both speeds and directions of transport of their carriers; storage means for temporarily storing electrical signals derived from at leas said first scanning means, and first connection between said second scanning means and each of said signal stores which are associated with the manual response means for storing predetermined electrical signals derived from the second scanning means when having scanned the said predetermined control marks from the separate recording carrier prior to the presentation o a question in the teaching program, second connections between the storage means for storing the at least electrical signals derived from the image markings and third connections between the said !signal stores and the said storage means and at least the fi st transport means, fo the purpose of controlling at least the first transport means in both predetermined program searching and program presenting operations which are dependent on the predetermined control signal which is stored associated with a momentarily actuated individual manual response means and on the electrical signal which is simultaneously stored in the storage means. "
2. A system as claimed in Claim 1, in which said recording carrier is a sound carrier, the sound carrier having at least one sound track in addition to said control track, the control marks representing information regarding the turning on or the forward advancing or the reverse advancing of said first and second transport means in s id first or second ^transport speeds. ..;;.-..:..,.·.
3. A system as claimed in Claim 2, herein the sound carrier is a conventional magnetic tape.
4. A system as claimed in Claim lp wherein said control marks are in the form of bursts of repetitive signal waves, the number of periods of said waves contained in a predetermined burst representing i ormation regarding the turning on or the forward advancing or the reverse advancing of said first transport means,.
5., A system as claimed i Claim 4, wherein there are provided means defining a deviation range within which the number o wave periods contained in said burst is detected.
6. A visual presentatio : system as claimed in any of Claims 1 to 5, wherei said movable image carrier is film and said first transport means a film projector; wherein said separate , independentl movable recording carrier is a magnetic recording carrier and said. second transport means a magnetic recorder; wherein said markings are in the form of optical marks o said film and said control marks in the form of magnetic marks1 recorded on said magnetic recording carrier; wherein said first scanning means are optical scanning means cooperating with said optical marks and said second scanning means are in the form of a magnetic head cooperating with said magnetic marks, said connecting means includ , a coincidence detecting means which is electrically connected to both said film projector and said magnetic recorder and being effective, upo detection of coincidence, to produce a control signal controlling th movement of at least said film projector.
7. * A visual presentation system as claimed in Claim 1 or an claim dependent thereon wherein there is provided a plurality of stores each connected to a corresponding one of said manual response means; and wherein distributing means is to said second scanning means and a counting means is employed for counting the type and number of operations to be executed by said transport means, said counting means being connected to said manual response means, the signals generated by said second scanning means being successively stored under the control of said distributing means in the individual stores, and the signals selected by th actuation of one of said manual response means being subsequently fed to said counting means.
8. A film when used as an image carrier in the system claimed in any preceding claim wherein the frames are reduced in their length on the side of the film opposite th per** forations serving for the stepwise advance of said film, by a longitudinally extending blackened edge portion, and wherein said markings comprise coded combinations of transparent window portions formed lengthwise of said ilm in said blackened edge portion, said edge portion being optically scanned for said markings by said second scanning means.
9. A magnetic tape when used as a sound carrier in the system claimed in Claim 2, or any claim dependent thereon, said tape Including' at least one control track having control marks, recorded thereon in the form of predetermined numbers of repetitive waves in the sound frequency range, at leas one sound track having acoustic teaching information recorded thereon and at least on program track having digital signals recorded thereon which are coordinated with the program content to be presented by moving said two carriers.
10. An audio-visual presentation system substantiall as hereinbefore described with re erence to, and as Illustrated in, the accompanying drawings. SC:CB
