Description

ARRANGEMENT FOR THE SEALING OF THE WEDGE BREECH BLOCK OF GUNS The Invention concerns an arrangement for the sealing of the wedge breeoh blook of guns in whloh a packing ring is provided at the end of the barrel.
In guns in whio cartridges ^ithout oases are used, the sealing of the barrel against, transversely slideable breeoh blopk is obtained in that at the barrel end a jtacking. ring is used which is arranged in a annular enlarged part of the barrel. The paoking ring has two flanges whioh lie approximately at right aggie to eaoh other. One o the flanges of the paoking ring runs substantially parallel? to the barrel axis, while the flange lying at right angle, thereto. takes over the sealing at the paokin ring an exchangeable annular collar lodged in a groove is provided.
The opportunity is thus given to easier overcome the leakages betwee the packing ring and the opposed surfaoe, ffcsulting through War and the like. The sealing is effected opposite the annular oollar which is. a separate part and oan easily be exchanged. The annular oollar is disposed as a packing ing in a corresponding groove and is lodged fittingly therein* When as a result of combustion deposits or the like on the surfaoe opposite to the paoking, respectively in its vicinity, thire are signs of oorroslon, they can easily be removed.
The attachment of the annular oollar on the breech blook respectively, barrel bottom, is best effeoted by means of sunk-in ooni"cal¾r headed screws. Th oollar has preferably an off-set edge on the side facing the packing ring. ' This makes it possible that oombustion residues such as soot and the like, can settle on the sur oe o the breeoh wedge or the like whioh is recessed owing to the off-set portion.
During the displacement ef the wedge breech blook these residues do not come into oontaot with the wealing sur aoe of the annular packing, --whereby the durability of the ' paokingj s improved.
The invention is described hereinbelow vxith the aid of the embodiment illustrated in th©; drawing. The onl figure shows i section an embodiment of the sealing arrangement aooording to the invention..
The end ft of a gun barrel 2 is closed in known manner by means of a breeoh wedge 3» hic is slideable trans- , yersely to the longitudinal axis of barrel 2. In a groove 4 of the barrel end 2 a paoking ring 5 is disposed, which has. a flange 5* parallel to the barrel azis and a flange 5b perpendicular to the barrel axis. In a groove 6 of th breech wedge 3 a oollar 7 ie provided whioh at the outside at 8 has an off-set portion. Between the collar 7 and the breeoh block 3 an annular intermediary plate 9 is provided on the bottom of groove 6. The attaohment of the oollar is effected by sorewe 10 whose threaded shanks are screwed into the breeoh wedg 3·

Claims (3)

The flange 5b of the packing ring 5 abuts sealingly the surface 7a of the collar 7 where the breech wedge 3 is in the locking position. The collar 7 is inserted fittingly against the groove surface 6a. Between the head of the screws 10 and the collar 7 a sealing disc 11, e.g. of li -t metal or the like, may be provided. C L A I M S
