Description

PATENTS AND DESIGNS ORDINANCE SPECIFICATION Elastic tape for Btockings and other articles of clothing D'-ΙΠΚ nwa n »-»siai o* »ai.i 'SO^K ono I/We JOSEPH PEPO SALTIEI, a ½ench citizen, of 10 Bis rue Charles Picard, Saint Quentin, Aiene, ^rance :do hereby declare the nature of this invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, to be particularly described and ascertained in. and by the following statement :- The present invention relates to an elastic tape, especially intended to ensure the maintenance in position on a part of the "body of an article of clothing to which it is fixed, and having for that purpose the two-fold property of not slipping on the surface with which it is in contact, and of being adjustable in length according to the size of the user.
Elastic fabrics are known, in particular in the form of tapes, of which one face is provided with visible rubber threads. These elastic fabrics are employed for example for the upper part of socks in order to hold them on the leg, the rubber threads ensuring a better grip on the skin.
It is also known to utilize tapes, provided on one of their faces with pocketst slides or other holding means, adapted to co-operate with an attachment of appropriate form, and permitting the useful length of the tape to be adjusted according to the size of the user.
Tapes of this kind are utilized in particular for the straps of brassieres.
The invention has for its object an elastic tape, of which one face comprises anti-slipping means while the other face is provided with means for effecting the adjustment of the useful length of the tape, the co-operation of these means permitting - in particular in the case of the application of the tape to the fixing of ladies* stockings - the manufacture of articles which, irrespective of the size of the wearer, retains the advantages normally provided by the existence of anti-slipping means.
According to a preferred form of embodiment of is woven, in such manner that one of its faces has at least one row of visible rubber threads, while the other face comprises a plurality of transverse pockets capable of receiving the pins of an attachment of suitable form permitting the joining together of two non-con iguous pockets, and in consequence the adjustment of the useful length of the tape.
It is clear that the non-slip face of the elastic tape according to the invention may be given this property by any other known means, for example by coating with an adhesive material, Similarly, the means for adjusting the length of the tape may be constituted by bars in line, in which the hooks of the attachments can be engaged, by buttonholes or by any other known means.
Forms of embodiment of the invention will be described below, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, given by way of examples and without any limitation.
In the drawings : Figs. 1 and 2 illustrate a tape according to the invention, Fig. 1 being a front view with an appropriate attachment shown in broken lines, Fig. 2 showing the reverse side.
Fig. 3 shows a front view of another tape in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 4 again shows a front view of a further tape according to the invention, with an appropriate attachment in broken lines.
Fig. 5 represents the tape with transverse pockets according to Fig. 3, fitted on the upper part of a stocking.
Pigs. 7 illustrates the application of these adjustment means according to Pig. 6, to the upper part of a stocking.
Fig. 8 shows a further form of embodiment of the means for adjusting the length of the tape.
Pig. 9 shows the application of the adjusting means according to Fig. 8, to the upper portion of a stocking.
Pig. 10 shows a further form of construction of the means for adjusting the length of the tape.
Pig. 11 illustrates the application of the adjusting means according to Pig. 10 to the upper part of a stocking.
With reference to Pigs. 1 and 2, Pig. 1 shows one of the faces of the tape provided with a plurality of pockets 2. Fig. 2 shows the other face comprising one or more rows 3 of bare rubber threads. It is clear that these threads 3 give the fabric special properties of adhesion on the utilization surface, the skin or an under-garment , while the pockets 2 enable, by their co-operation with an appropriate attachment 7, the tightening length of the tape to be adjusted accroding to the requirements or the preference of the user.
The tape according to the invention is capable of use either independently or fixed to an article of clothing. Its advantages are particularly remarkable when it is employed for holding a stocking in position, as shown in fig. 5.
In this case infact, the non-slip face of the tape prevents any slipping of the stocking, while the combination of the elasticity of the fabric an the any excess or any insdequaey of the tightness, defects which neither the one nor the other of these characteristics utilized separately can completely obviate.
Referring now to Fig. 3, the pockets 2 are closed on one side, for example by a row 4 of threads.
With reference to Fig. 4, the pockets 2 on the side opposite to the opening open into a longitudinal tunnel 5 which facilitates the adjustment in position of the nose 6 of the clip or attachment 7, and provides an excellent fixing and a truly parallel position for this latter.
An important advantage of the tapes in accordance with Fig. 3 or Fig. 4 is to permit the weaving of this elastic tape by a weaving loom having a single shuttle, and therefore with an efficiency almost twice as great, while employing modern and widely-distributed equipment.
Fig, 6 illustrates a further form of embodiment of the invention, in which the pockets are replaced by two rows of bars 8 and 9, in which the hooks of the attachment 7 can be engaged.
In the form of construction shown in Fig. 8, the bars 10 and 11 of each row are directed transversely and are adapted to co-operate with hooks 11, as shown in Fig. 9.
In the form of embodiment according to Fig. 10, the tape is provided at regular intervals with buttonholes 12 adapted to co-operate with buttons 15, as shown in Fig. 11.
The other face of the tape is provided with visible threads 3, which gives the tape the advantages referred to above.
