Description

A handle for carrier bags SV D GBORGB HANSEN C:-26579 -t a- The invention relates to a handle for carrier bags, particularly of the kind made from foil, preferably transparent plasti foil, and adapted to be used for holding commodities, which are displayed when the bag is suspended by its handle from a support* The handle consists in a known way of two substantially similar halves lying side by side, the lower parts of which are connected to a reinforcement strip located at the edge of the bag, and the distance between the feet of one half on the strip is less than the distance between the feet of the other half on &he strip.
In the closed position of the bag one of the halves is passing through the loop of the other half. When the commodity should be taken out the two halves of the handle again change places and are then removed from each other, whereby the bag is opened* The object of the invention is to provide a handle, in which both handle halves serve to keep the bag in a closed position, and furthermore equally take part in carrying the weight of the bag and the contents thereof. Besides it is an advantage of the embodiment of the handle indicated by the invention that, in the open position of the bag, there are no projecting parts on the inward facing side of the handle, by which the introduction and th removal of the commodity might be made difficult.
According to the present invention there is provided a handle for carrier bags consisting of two substantially uniform halves whose lower parts are connected to a reinforcement strip located at the upper edge of the bag, the distance between the feet of one of the halves on the strip being less than the distance betwee the feet of the other half on the strip, and one of the halves in the closed position of the bag passing through the other half, so that one of the halves with the outwardly facing side thereof in the same height as the other half abuts the outwardly facing -1 b- 28031/2 has the shape of an inverted U whose legs are vertical to the strip, the othor half also being shaped as an inverted U whose legs, however, make an acute angle with the strip.
Other characteristic features of the invention and their advantages will appear from the following specii'ication with reference to the drawings in which: Fig, 1 is a side view of one half of the handle, Fig. 2 is a side view of the other half of the handle, Fig. 3 is a side view of the two halves in assembled state, showing the bag closed, Fig. 4 is a plan view on a larger scale of the portion A in Fig. 3, and Fig. 5 is a sectional view at the centre of the handle.
The handle shown consists of two halves 10 and 12, which have the same height and each of which is symmetrical about a vertical center line. The downward facing sides of the halves, 14 and 16, respectively, are in one piece with a reinforcement strip 18, which is located at the upper edge of the appurtenant bag 20, a fragment of which is shown in Fig. 3. The etrip 18 runs continuously around the periphery of the opening of the bag. The bag is preperably made of plastic foil. The handle and the strip 18 are made b plast material, which is considerably thicker than the foil, however, easy to bend. As can be seen from Fig. 4, the thickness of the strip 18 has been diminished at the transits from one side of the bag to the other, preferably by means of notches 40 from the outward facing side of the strip. Hereby the strip will be especially easy to bend at the side edges of the bag, because the two sides of the strip will form convex curves, when the bag is opened by removing the handle halves from each other.
At the top the two handle halves are equally wide in horizontal direction. The sides 14 of the handle half 10 are outwardly inclined in downwards direction, whereas the sides 16 of the handle half 12 are mainly vertical.
When the bag is to be closed, the handle half 12 is carried through the aperture enclosed by the handle half 10, and when thereafter the two handle halves are brought to abut against each other with the . original outer sides, the two halves of the stri 18 will also abut against each other. This state is shown in Fig. 3, from which also appears that the upper horizontal parts of the handle halves are situated at the same ..level. When the bag is carried in this state, the hand grasps both handle halves, and both of them take part in carrying the weight of the bag and the contents thereof.
At the lower edge of the horizontal part of the handle half 10 a projection in the shape of a hook or an angular flap 30 is found, vide especially Figs. 1 and 5. At the lower edge of the horizontal part of the handle half 12 a recess or a slit 34 is found, Fig. 2. In the closed position of the bag the flap 30 is brought into engagement with the slit 34, as can be seen from Fig. 3, whereby the two handle halves in the same height are kept in abutment with each other.
At the middle of the upper edge of the half 10 a hook 36 is provided, by which the bag may be suspended when it is to be displayed. In this state of the bag the engagement between the flap 30 and the slit 34 has the effect that the half 12 and half of the strip 18 connected with the latter are not inclined to sink by the weight of the contents of the bag.
At both sides of the slit 34 the half 12 at its lower edge is provided with downward facing curved projections 44» When the halves 10 and 12 of the handle are to be released from each other, an upward pressure is exercised on these projections, whereby the flap 30 is freed.
Along the edge of the handle halves and of the hook. 36 strengthening edge beads 42 are provided. 28031/2 "
