Description

iJ tsdi PATENT FORM No. 3 PATENTS AMD DESIGNS ORDINANCE SPECIFICATION Moulded Bodies of arti icial Stone, suoh as artificial marble or the like and Process for the Production thereo f I, Andre* Chatelain, a Swiss Citizen of Jerusalem, Y. .C.A. Hostel, David Hemeleehstr., do hereby declare the nature of this invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, to be particularly described and ascertained in and b the following statement: This invention relates to moulded bodies made of artificial stone, such as artificial marble or the like and to a new process for the production thereof* It is the object of the invention to produce in an economical way elements which may replace costly natural marble/f or similar natural stone, used for decorative purposes having at least one exterior surface resembling that of the natural material as well as other desired qualities, such as hardness, impermeability against moisture and resistance to the influence of weather and other corrosive forces* Such bodies may present slabs for lining walls or columns* stairs* tiles for floors and ceilings* wall tiles, table tops, kitchen slabs, and many other decorative elements. At least one exterior surface may be glossy o mat and produced i any deeired tint, color or pattern. The elements may be provided with in-cast anchoring means for fixing them to the surfaces to be covered therewith* According to the invention there is prepared a mixture consisting in weight substantially of 10 parts of Portland cement, 16 parts of sand and gravel-stone, one part of chalk, one eighth part of caseine, Ο,Ι&^ silicone and oolorin agents, to which is added a solution of one part of silicate of sodium or potassium in fifteen parts of water, in such a quantity as to obtain a viscosity of the whole mass to permit it to be kneaded and then to be poured into a mold which has at least one smooth surface; such smooth surface or surfaces are powdered with a small quantit of colored powder of the tints to be desired, said powder being distributed on said smooth surface or surfaces of the mold in different plaoes along straight lines, curves or spots according to the pattern desired on the outer surface or mixture is poured slowly into the. meld coverin the colored powder, whic integrates therewith, thus forming thereon the desired pattern, the mass is left in the mold until being hardened enough to be taken out. Preferably the element is then further treated with a solution of soluble fluo-silioate to .increase its hardness and its impermeability against moisture. Preferabl anchoring means may be inserted in the back of the moulded article while it is still unhardened in the mold. When the smooth surface or surfaces of the mold are ¾ighly polished* glossy corresponding surfaoes of the elements are obtained.
In producing slabs o elements of a certain thiokness it is only necessary to pour into the mold a quantity of the described mass sufficient to cover the colored powder and to cover it thereafter by a layer of ordinary ooncrete or the like untilthe desired thiokness is attained.
When the hardened element is taken out of the mold, the smooth or glossy surface or surfaces have the appearance of natural stone or marble and the veins look entirely natural. .
One embodiment of the invention will now be described in a non-limitative way with reference to the attached drawings: Pig. 1 shows a wall slab resembling a slab of natural marblej Fig. 2 shows a section on line Δ-Α of the slab of fig. 1, showing the in-cast anchoring means.
S e veins 1 represent veins of marble, the spots 2 colored spots of the marble and line 3 represents a fault, 4 the anchoring means which may consist of wire projecting k from the back of the element and/adapted to be bent to lie close to the baok^for facilitating transport of the elements. To cover corners of a wall the elements ma be forme n appropriate mold having several smooth surfaces as (¾*hgle pieces or even semi-cylindrically for covering cylindrical columns, a matter which is practically impossible or extremely costly in. using natural marble or stone.
Many modifications of the invention are possible within the scope of the appended claims and are considered to be included in the invention.

Claims (8)

ΗΑΫΙΗβ HOW particularly described and ascertained the nature of may said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed I declare that what I claim is:
1. l) A process for the production of moulded bodies of artificial stone, marble or the like, comprising the preparation of a mixture consisting in weight substantially of 10 parts of Portland cement, sixteen parts of sand and gravel-stone, one part of chalk, one eighth part of oaseine, 0.16 of silicone and a quantity of coloring agents, adding thereto a solution of one part of silicate of sodium or potassium in fifteen parts of water in such a quantity as to impart to the whole mass a visoosity to permit it to be kneaded and then to be poured slowly into a mold which has at least one smooth surface powdering said smooth surface or surfaces with a quantity of colored powder of the tints to be desired, said powder afxthaxtintsxinxha being distributed on said - smooth surface or surfaces of the mold in different places along straight lines, curves or spots acoording to the pattern desired on the outer surface or surfaces of the end product, then pouring slowly the previousl prepared mixture into the mold covering the colored powder, whioh latter thus integrates with the said mixture, forming thereon the desired pattern, leaving the mixture in the mold until being hardened and then taking out thereof the so moulded article*
2. ) A process as claimed in claim 1 characterized in that said moulded article is further submitted to a treatment with a solution of soluble fluo-silicate for increasing its hardness and its impermeability against moisture.
3. ) A process as claimed in claim 1 characterized in that anchoring means are inserted in the back of the article while It is still unhardened in the mold. Ί ·
4. ) A process as claimed in claims 1 to 3 characterised in that a mold is used the smooth surface or surfaces thereof are l^ghly polished, thereby imparting to the moulded element a glossy surface or surfaces.
5. ) A process as claimed in claims 1 to 4 characterised in that only such a quantity of said mixture' s poured into the mold as necessary to cover the colored powder and an additional layer of ordinary concrete or the like is poured on the layer of the mixture to attain a desired thickness of the moulded element.
6. ) A process as claimed in claims 1 to 5 characterized in that said anchoring meane consist of metal wire, projecting from the baek of the molded elements, but being adapted to be bent, to lie close to the back o facilitating transport of the element.
7. ) A process for the production of molded bodies of artificial stone, marble or the like as described hereinbefore*
8. ) Bodies or elements produced according to the process claimed in claims 1 to 7 and described with reference to the accompanying drawings* Jerusalem, this 2nd day of June 1966 av d ffolfi Agent for Applicant
