Description
PROCESS FOR OF LIVESTOCK The invention relates to the preparation of a stock containing skimmed milk powder intimately mixed with liquid vegetable animal with t e addition of vitamins or other if Such mixtures are They are usually filled into especially in cold are subsequently preserved for some weeks at the open air so that the mixture can and the fat cr The lisation of the fat causes the powder to harden into a very hard which first has to be broken up and ground anew before it is suitable for This has the disadvantage of requiring many intensive labour such as filling into temporary transport to and from the the hard grinding of the and refilling the now powdery livestock feed into bags suitable for Furthermore there is a great loss of bags used for as they often tear when the hardened contents are broken This storage of produce also requires a considerable ment of capital which as a consequence of the necessary storage time causes a great loss of The invention has the object to provide a process which is free om these According to the there is provided a process the preparation of a livestock feed wherein a finely divided mixture including a milk powder and liquid vegetable animal fat is intimately contacted by a gas stream having a maximum temperature not exceeding the velocity and moisture content of which are selected in such a manner that the fat contained in the powder obtained acquires a crystalline A mixture thus prepared does not The powder obtained by this process can easily be filled in bags suitable for sale and does not harden into so that this powder is suitable for direct use It has also been found that this powder dissolves more readily in wa er than the known Preferably the particles of the after having the zone of direct action of said gas are brought into intimate contact with at least one other gas stream whose temperature and moisture content can be controlled independentl of the first mentioned gas stepwise treatment of the particles has the advantage that the conditions of the treatment of the mixture can be controlled more exactly than with a single gas so that the properties of the powdery or granular product can be kept within narrow second gas The invention also provides an apparatus for the preparation of livestock feed which comprises a substantially cycle which includes a cooler leading to a first conduit having a fan for a first gas stream and leading to a second separate conduit having a fan for a second gas stream said first and second conduits leading to one end of a treatment vessel having separating means for separating said mixture from said gas separating means extending towards the other end of said treatment vessel before the entrance opening of the discharge conduit which returns to the and near the inlet end of the treatment one or more outlet openings for the treated to which openings means are connected for packing and charging the treated This apparatus permits the continuous preparation of livestock feed without factors secondary Furthermore the manufacture is hygienic and independent of atmospheric the vertical dimensions of the apparatus can be kept within reasonable limits which is great advantage from a structional point of embodiment of an apparatus according to the vention illustrated by way of example in the accompanying in Figure 1 shows a schematic side view of a continuously operating Figure 2 shows a cross section on the line in Figure As shown in the drawing a mixture of skimmed milk powder which has been mixed with liquid vegetable animal with the addition of other if is fed into a supply device 1 which with the aid of a schematically cated screw 2 feeds the material into the inner conduit Through this inner conduit 4 moves a rapid gas stream which is blown by the fan 5 and propels the mixture the into the treatment vessel In this vessel of the mixture is stopped by the filter 79 which may be replaced by a suitable so that the finely divided material treated the gas stream from the conduit 4 cannot escape through the or the cyclone and moves downwardly under the influence of During this downward movement the material is influenced by a slower gas stream from the outer conduit 8 with an outlet whose width can be varied and which receives gas from the fan material which has been treated by the second gas stream after having passed out of the influence of las to the lower side of the vessel where the product P is discharged through the outlets 10 onto the belts carry it to the bag filling devices 12 and the filled bags are discharged via the transport belt The adjustable fans 5 and 9 suck the circulating treatment gas through cooler 14 the inlet of which connects via the conduit 15 to the air discharge opening 16 of the treatment vessel In order to control the moisture content of both gas streams it is possible to supply moisture to each of the conduits 4 and 8 by means of a metering device T gas velocities can be controlled by fans 5 and 9 and gas temperatures can be regulated by the adjustment of valves 18 and 19 associated with the cooler As an example of the skimmed milk powder cooled to a temperature of was intimately mixed with a mixture of palm and pork fata at a ture of approximately The loose mixture obtained was blown into a treating chamber the vessel 6 of the apparatus described by an air stream substantially saturated with water vapour at about with a velocity of 5 to 10 The powder obtained had the desired crystal structure necessary to prevent caking of the mixture and retained this structure in storage during a period of two temperatures between and without tending to cake and to form a hard mixture appeared particularly well soluble or in other aqueous By this and pre with the aid of the apparatus according to this it is possible to treat the finely divided material continuously in suc a way that the fat in the powder or granules obtained assumes the crystal structure needed in order to prevent caking whereas it s also possible by stepwise treatment with the and second air to control the properties of the material treated within narrow The structure of the livestock feed can be varied for example by placing a ted plate before the outlet the supply screw so that the shape of the material is changed for example into granules o It is possible to carry out sorting of the duced livestock feed so that only granules or flakes of a certain size are filled into bags and the other material which does not meet these requirements is returned to the supply device In a further modification it is also possible to effect the treatment in three or more insufficientOCRQuality
