Description

111232 COMPOSITION FOR TREATING THE HAIR AND STIMULATING ITS GROWTH THE PROFESSOR OSCAR 9999 COMPANY 9999 ι υΐΝ noDi-ia man C: 09121 Inventor: Shlomo Simcha RON γη nno\y no!w :N>uonn , , and for treating the hair. -¾»v>n ina jtn D».wm i¾>ri >iv»r ,n «n o >«oji FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a composition for treating acne and for disinfecting the skin and the hair, and to a formulation for treating the hair.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Acne is a skin disease sometimes associated with inflammation in and around the hair follicles; it may be related in some degree to diet and to hormonal activity. Thus, there may be an accumulation of sebaceous material with superimposed infection, accompanied by inflammation and scar formation. However, acne is also found on the skin in places where hair does not usually grow.
Loss of hair may be due to a variety of circumstances, including nervous and hormonal factors, but in general there is no connection with acne, except with the young.
As will be seen from the description which follows, the present invention relates to the treatment of acne (and of wounds resulting therefrom), disinfection of the skin and the hair, and to the treatment of hair for the purpose of strengthening it and encouraging growth of existing hair.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention provides in one embodiment a composition for treating acne (including skin wounds resulting therefrom) which comprises an aqueous lotion of citric acid, menthol and yeast. This composition will be designated by the letter (A) hereinafter.
In another embodiment, the present invention provides a formulation for treating hair, for the purpose of strengthening it and encouraging growth of existing hair, which mixture comprises 1 pary by weight of (A) the composition recited in the preceding paragraph, together with 0.5 to 2 parts by weight (and preferably 1 part by weight) of (B) a composition which comprises ground nutmeg, caryophyllene, cardamom and castor oil, and optionally glycerol. "Nutmeg" in the present specification and claims means nutmeg in any convenient form, e.g. the powdered kernels, or the oil as distilled from the dry kernels. "Cardamom" in the present specification and claims likewise means cardamom in any convenient form, such as e.g. powder prepared by grinding the seeds.
While the invention is not to be limited by any theory, it is presendy believed that the usefulness of the formulation of the invention for treating hair may reside in composition (B) alone, as well as in its combination with composition (A). It will therefore be apparent to persons skilled in the art that a combination of composition (B) with a chemical equivalent of composition (A) is to be considered a chemical equivalent of the formulation for treating hair of the invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION Composition (A) preferably comprises 1-3 parts citric acid, 4-6 parts menthol and 7-13 parts yeast, and preferably also 15-25 parts water, all parts being by weight. More preferably, this composition comprises 1.8 to 2.2 parts citric acid, 4.5 to 5.5 parts menthol, 9-11 parts yeast and 18-22 parts water, and most preferably substantially 2 parts citric acid, 5 parts menthol, 10 parts yeast and 20 parts water, all parts being by weight.
In the formulation for treating hair, composition (B) preferably comprises 7-13 parts nutmeg, 7-13 parts caryophyllene, 25-30 parts cardamom and 7-13 parts castor oil, optionally with 2-8 parts glycerol, more preferably 9-11 parts nutmeg, 9-11 parts caryophyllene, 25-30 parts cardamom and 9-11 parts castor oil, optionally with 4.5 to 5.5 parts glycerol, and most preferably substantially 10 parts nutmeg, 10 parts caryophyllene, 28 parts cardamom and 10 parts castor oil, optionally with 5 parts glycerol. It is especially preferred that composition (B) includes glycerol.
The invention will be illustrated by the following non-limiting examples.
Exam le I 2 parts citric acid B.P., 5 parts menthol crystals B.P. and 10 parts Turula Yeast (Candida utilis) all parts being by weight) are thoroughly ground together and the product is well mixed with 20 parts water.
The resulting lotion was tested by topical administration for one month (3 applications daily, 5 minutes per application) to 8 female patients with acne. In 4/8 patients, the skin wounds had almost disappeared within 3 weeks; in 2/8 patients, the skin wounds were much less evident within the month of treatment; in 2/8 patients, there was no significant change. This test showed that the composition of the invention was very useful in 75% of the patients tested.
The lotion prepared in this example was also useful for disinfecting the skin and the hair.
Example II Ingredients which consisted of 10 parts powdered nutmeg, 10 parts caryophyllene B.P., 28 parts ground seed of elettaria cardamomum and 10 parts castor oil B.P., were thoroughly mixed with 5 parts glycerol U.S. P. The resulting paste was well mixed with an approximately equal amount (by weight) of the composition of example I. The end product exemplified the formulation of the invention for treating hair.
This formulation was administered topically to 10 adult patients who had suffered hair loss. 8/10 patients reported that falling out of hair had stopped after 3 days, 1/10 reported that hair loss had lessened after one week, while 1/10 reported no change. This test showed that the formulation of the invention was exceptionally useful in 80-90% of the patients tested.
While the present invention has been particularly described, it will be evident to by persons skilled in the art that variations and modifications may be made. The invention is therefore not to be construed as limited by the particularly described embodiments, rather its concept and scope will be appreciated by reference to the claims which follow.
In connection with the subject of present invention, Israel Ministry of Health Licence No. 15616 dated December 8, 1984, is noted.
NOTICE UNDER THE REGISTRAR'S CIRCULAR NO. 23(P) OF APRIL 5, 1992 Since the invention is defined in the appended claims, it will be apparent that the passages of the present specification which fail outside the scope of the claims do not relate directly to the invention.
