Description

Sliding door, window or vent mechanism forPo|ythene clad structures such as greenhouses.
Field gf invention The present invention relates to a sliding mechanism for a door, window or vent in a Polytunnel or other polythene clad structure.
Sliding doors are commonly used in polythene clad structures used as greenhouses, animal houses and storage structures. These doors commonly run on wheels rolling on the ground or they hang from wheels running on an overhead rail. They are expensive, require maintenance and are prone to damage.
Accordingly there is provided a galvanised steel tube firmly attached horizontally to the structure abovethe door, window or vent. It is attached at or near both ends and possibly also at an intermediate points. From this tube the door, window or vent is hung from brackets attached to the top of the door in such a way that it can slide along this tube from side to side to open and close.
The advantage of the invention are 1. That it is robust. 2'. That the base of the door, window or vent can be raised, inwards or outwards, and draw level with the top of the door, window or vent giving wider access.
That it has economic advantage.
That opening and closing the door, window or vent can be easily mechanized. ’ Brie escri ' n aw‘ s The invention will be more clearly understood from the following description of the embodiment thereof, given by way of example only, , with reference to the accompanying drawing. Figure 1 is a 3D perspective of a typical installation of a door using the invention 886330 _ 2 mechanism. D is the door, window or vent. C is the door, window or vent frame. A is the tube from which the door,'window or vent is suspended and along which the door, window or vent can slide to open or close. B is a typical Bracket arrangement that is attached to the door, window or vent through the tube A passes.
D i r‘ ' n The invention is a sliding door rail kit. It operates like a shower curtain rail but instead of curtain rings there are brackets firmly attached to the top of the door. Referring now to the drawing Figure 1. There is illustrated a typical layout showing in this instance a door arrangement.
The arrangement for a window or vent would be similar. Typically a galvanized steel tube or a solid bar would be firmly attached below beside or above the door lintel as in the sketch. Firmly attached to the top of the door are one or more brackets (B) in such an alignment that the tube (A) passes through them thus suspending the door From the steel tube (A) in such a way that the door can slide from side to side to open and close. Bracket B is shown in the drawing as a tube of slightly larger diameter than the Galvanized steel tube from which it hangs and along which it slides. It could equally be in the form ofan inverted U bracket. Typically this would also be galvanized steel, although it could be made from another materiel for cost, corrosion or friction reasons.

Claims (1)

1. CLAIMS A Galvanized steel tube firmly attached horizontally to a polythene clad structure above the door, window or vent from which the door, window or vent is hung in such a way that it can slide along this tube from side to side to open and close.
