Description

This invention relates to a bag or sachet which may be used, for example to hold a sample for advertising purposes or as a pack for selling goods.
In known bags or sachets the bags themselves are provided . 5 with printed material such as advertisements or instructions with regard to the use of the goods in the bags, but the surface area available for the advertisements is comparatively small so that it may not be possible to include all of the information which it would be desirable to impart to the customer.
In order to supply more comprehensive advertising or other information it is already known to glue, tack or otherwise attach bags or sachets such as sample bags to a printed prospectus leaflet. However, this can only be done by expensive manual work.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a , bag or sachet which represents a larger surface area for printed. matter and which can be manufactured in an inexpensive fashion.
In accordance with the invention, there is provided a bag or sachet wherein a pocket is formed between two sheets of foil or strip material, characterised in that said sheets extend from one edge of the pocket to provide two tab portions on which advertising or other material is printed, said tab portions being unconnected Oyer the whole of their areas and separated from eaeh other outwardly of said one pocket edge, each tab portion extending outwardly from said one pocket edge for a distance which exceeds the overall width of said pocket as 4524 measured in a direction transverse to the edge.
The pocket may also be subdivided into several compartments of which only one need be filled with a sample in question.
In a further development of this invention, the sheets of foil or strip may be folded back along said one edge of the pocket to enfold the latter between them.
In accordance with the invention, a bag or sachet for advertising or other purposes is produced which fully meets the abovementioned desiderata. In addition to this, one entire bag can be produced by mechanical means and requires no expensive manual labour.
The projecting tab portions provide a sufficiently large area to allow the sample to be accompanied by all the necessary information.
The invention will now be more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawing which illustrates one example of a bag or sachet in accordance with the invention.
The bag or sachet shown in the drawing is intended for advertising purposes. It comprises a pocket 3, formed between two sheets of foil or strip material 1 and 2, to hold a sample. This pocket 3 is defined by the marginal edge portions 4, 5, 6 and 7 which may for example be formed by securing the two sheets together over these portions by adhesive or stapling or stitching or by heat-sealing, the sample being placed in position before said edge portion 4, 5, 6 and 7 are secured aforesaid. The foil's or' strips 1 and 2 extend beyond said edge portion 5 to form, two tab portions 8 and 9 beyond the pocket 3. As will be seen from the drawing, said tab portions unconnected over the whole of their areas and separated from each other outwardly of said edge portion 5 and will be provided 4 5 2 4 - 4 with the necessary advertising or other printed matter (not shown). Furthermore, each tab portion extends outwardly from said edge portion 5 for a distance which exceeds the overall width of said pockets as measured in a direction transverse to the edge.
The tab portions 8 and 9 may also be folded back, in a manner not here specifically illustrated, along the edge portion 5 of the pocket 3 to enfold the latter between them. Furthermore, the aforesaid pocket 3 may be subdivided (as by adhesive or stapling or stitching or heat-sealing) into a number of separate compartments and, for sample purposes, only one of such compartments need be filled.

Claims (4)

1. CIAIMS:
1. A bag or sachet wherein a pocket is formed between two sheets of foil or strip material characterised in that said sheets extend from one edge of the pocket to provide two 5 tab portions on which advertising or other material is printed, said tab portions being unconnected over the whole of their areas and separated from each other outwardly of said one pocket edge, said tab portion extending outwardly from said one pocket edge for a distance which exceeds the overall width of said 10 pocket as measured in a direction transverse to the edge.
2. A bag or sachet according to Claim 1, characterised in that said pocket is subdivided into several compartments.
3. A bag or sachet according to Claim 1 or Claim 2, characterised in that said sheets are folded back along said 15 one edge of the pocket to enfold the latter between them.
4. A bag or sachet substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawing.
